heater core

i am building a 71 vert and when i tore down the a/c to replace the heater core and going back together i notice that door/wiper at the bottom of the case below the core when closed there is a 1/2" gap between the top of the door and bottom of the core from looking at this there does not seem to be any function to this door because it will not seal off the core so i attached an extra piece of seal on top do you know

is this normal to have that gap or is something wrong

Mine has the same gap. My guess would be to keep things from freezing.

the gap is normal that is the air restrictor door on the Violet vacuum motor line.

the gap is for normal air flow. When you put the A/C system to MAX that door then opens up all the way.

by closing that off you will restrict all air. remove the foam.
