1973 Mustang
Hello,

I have always wanted a mustang and I am finally purchasing one of cl this week. It's a 1973. I have partially restored a 1972 chevy c-10 that was given to me from some family. I have some experience and understanding, but have a lot to learn. The mustang I am about to purchase needs a full restoration, although much of the body is in good condition. I will post pictures soon. Any specific info that someone new to mustangs must know, or any general tips at all would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Welcome to the site from Northern Virginia! You will find lots of great info, tips, and inspiration here. No such thing as a dumb question, but Search is your friend.

Looking forward to seeing pictures.

::welcome:: from Southern MD! You came to right forum to get all the info ad advice you'll need to help restore your Stang!

Congrats on the purchase and Welcome from coastal Alabama. Post some pics when you get a chance.

Welcome from central Virginia. Glad you found us. The main thing to look for is rust! Quarter panels, rear spring shackles, shock towers, floor pans, trunk, and cowl seem to be where rust hates our cars.

::welcome:: from Southern MD! Dont know what your paying for your stang but there is a guy in Frederick MD selling a rust Free 73 Mach 1 for $9k on this forum!

I Love the feedback. Thanks.

Here are some pictures from the CL ad and some i took with my cell phone. When I pick up the car I'll get some good ones with a camera.

I told the seller I'd give him almost $1700 for it, which he accepted. Engine is a later model. He didnt know too much about the history, but it did start/run. Oh, and no rust holes in the floor or trunk pan.

Is this a good deal?

Sorry about the upside down pics.

Welcome to the forums! Glad to have you aboard!

looks like the same condition my car is in right now. I'd say the price was fair, a good foundation. I paid $350 for mine but it's just an f code coupe. keep us posted on the progress and don't hesitate to ask any questions here! We have quite a few members coming in from VA, check out our member map under the "fun stuff" tab at the top right of the website.

The cowl looked good from my perspective. Not a pot of rust and no now. The vent covers missing in the pics were inside the car.

As for plans for the car, nothin' solid right now. The only thing I want to do is replace the current auto trans with a 4 speed or other manual. I've never done that before. How difficult is that in these cars?

Thanks

From what I understand is that manual trans cars are rare these days and you would needs a manual parts car to swap all the hardware over and if you find a swap kit it will be expensive. Guess I lucked out with my car but a lot if guys on Herr praise the autos as well. They can be built up to be fun. Shift kit, reverse manual valve body etc.
