Howdy sports Fans. Seen a 68 high country special today. I initially thought it was some kind of Shelby. Cool looking car that has been in Aus since new. Didn't have much time to yap to the old dude that owns it. What is the significance of these cars??? They resemble GT CS cars to me. I never knew they existed before now and am a bit interested in how why they came to be

You can get all the info at www.californiaspecial.com, but basically, the High Country Special was a regional promotion by the Denver area Ford Dealers from '66-'68. In '68, they took the California Special (a one year only promotion) and tweaked it slightly, with no "CS" script and a different decal on the side scoop. They only did 251 of them.

Steve (owner of a 1 of 1 '68 CS)

Ok regional special type deals then. I remember seeing a Torino Twister Special when I was about 17 didn't know how rare any twister special was until this week when a twister mustang was mentioned on the site. We seem to have a few of the USA's most desirable car down here in Aus.

A denver car in Australia? How did that happen?
I guess we just buy what we like and get it brought over. Back then 1 Au dollar was worth about 1.20 US so wouldn't of been a expensive deal. Guess that's why there is the odd royal pontiac gto, Baldwin motion car, yenko, GSS dodge dart about that have been here since new.

yeah in fact you guys DO have quite a few of the rare items down there. I have a friend that collects quite a few and ships them to Thailand. Apparently they LOVE them some American cars over there. However if it is over 20 grand I think it gets hit with big taxes, something like twice the value, anything under is amazing cheap tax. I guess its a luxury tax.

yeah we do have alot of really good stuff here, be it from the states or local, there is even a lot of exotic euro stuff too. The whole place is shot through with speed. There are even parts of the country that have re opened unlimited speeds on the HiWays.

Funny about the thailand thing I knew a thai woman that ran a whorehouse down south she had a LS5 454 impala. Must of delievered in 20min or less ;)

Ps I was going to same something about her big rod stroker, but its to obvious for such refined company
