Hey guys. I wont be running my carb for a while since my motor is being rebuilt. Whats the best way to store a carb off the vehicle?? i drained the fuels from mine so it doesnt tarnish. I was thinking of spraying it with wd40 or something similar. Then sealing it in a gallon ziplock bag to keep dust out. what do you guys do or what would you suggest???

Thanks Kevin

What carb is it? If it's a Holley plan on refreshing it with new gaskets before you use it again, the gaskets and seals tend to dry out and leak. Sealing any carb in a bag or some type of container to keep it clean is a great idea.

Fill the bowls with WD40. Work the throttle so the wd flows out the squirters. Then I'd bag it up.
I would put it in a box my self...yes seals mite dry out maybe sometime...but too me...Its better than rust.. Moisture just loves to get in closed bags...I would put it in a box with some bags of silicone in there...Cause even if you spray wd40 in the bag...Doesnt mean moisture wont make its way in the bag too...but thats just how i would...I seen carbs from the 1960's come out of old dusty boxes and work just fine...Kinda like a tomb...mite be a little dry...But its better to me than a rusty greasy mess;)

Turn the carb upside down, wiggle it until you get as much gas as you can out, work the accelerator pump until it stops squirting gas. Then fill the bowls, through the vent tubes, with carb cleaner. Exercise the accelerator pump again, then, with the throttle plates open, feed compressed air through the ventures and boosters until it stops drawing fuel. Turn it upside down again to get as much carb cleaner out as you can. The worst that will remain is a bit of carb cleaner. It won't prevent the gaskets and seals from drying out but, there should be no "gum" in the carb 6 months from now.

The abbreviated version of this ends at the end of the first sentence. I've used both with success. Chuck

Thanks for all the input guys. I got all the fuel out that i could. sprayed carb cleaner in there and got it all out then just sprayed the outside and with wd40 to prevent corrossion and placed in back in the original box and put it up on the shelf till the motor is built. Thanks again guys.
