I remember warnings on the hospital's computer systems about

a new Java upgrade. There was also mention of that on this forum.

I keep getting notices on my laptop that a Java upgrade is available.

I deleted my java...I got a trojan threw it and my mcafee's found it.....Havent had a issue or needed it sence.....most sites dont need or use java anymore.

They have fixed it since the U.S. Government Department of Homeland Security recommended for all Americans to disable Java -- so if you are getting messages about available updates to Java then it would be a good idea to accept patches if it is your personal computer -- at the hospital I am sure their IT staff will provide instructions on accepting updates.

It is not a bad idea to delete Java (incredible consumer of CPU and memory) -- or at least disable it in your internet browsers to avoid security problems.

My desktop never mentions an upgrade, just the laptop.

The laptop is used for astronomy purposes and no real info

to loose if Java screws up. The hospital systems use Windows XP!

Apparently a very robust platform as we run myriad hard wired and

wireless devices.

My company PC still has XP, because it it a very robust platform, a for software compatibility issues. but by the end of summer we will be updating to Win 7, because of hardware support.

Yup...They will force you into a new operating program....I had the dreaded and most hated windows ME...Which i never had a issue with it....Ran great on my pentium 4 with ram bus....And ran it for long as i could..9 years....Got to the point none of the new browsers nor anti virus updates would work..Dropped all support.

Windows XP is now 13 years old thou..And just can not handle all the memory and power of the newer pc's...4 gigs max memory is getting low on todays pc's..It has been a good program...But at first XP was a hacked up nightmare...I still remmeber my freinds XP computer getting so hacked up...He would turn on the pc and the mouse would fly up and open the net and start going to ebay and all sorts of places...And when he clicked on something or try to get his mouse controll back a big warning message would pop up saying...Master says no!!! I never seen anything like it...I ran over with a pile of my malware disk and a good firewall and got his pc under control...lol..And i still remmeber alot of my freinds getting hit with that remote shut down hack...I would have freinds calling me saying my computer keeps shutting down for no reason...I had to download the fix on my windows ME and take the fix over and install it before there PC's would shut down..lol..Awww Windows ;)
