I received an email tonight from an L.A. production crew that is going to be working on an upcoming feature film during the next several months. (My understanding is it is indeed a "big screen" movie) They originally wanted to use my car as one of the "hero" cars as they call it and were originally looking for a new model Challenger as the main ride....Well apparently the director/writers want to go for a more vintage look (smart move :D) so they are putting my car as first choice as the Picture Car AKA main hero car. Filming is second week of November. Stay tuned!....As I was just looking forward to taking my car apart this week and slowly getting it ready for next car show season. Now I find myself excited, yet stressed out trying to analyze every little part on my car to make everything look the best it can. Not to mention I am trying to get some finances in order to hopefully get some last minute paint work done.

I know they had mentioned something to me in the past about an L.A. Premiere for the movie, and though I am getting ahead of myself, how awesome would it be to have tons of 71-73 Mustangs there...hehehe

That sounds like a very exciting prospect indeed. The only thing i would say is to be carefull to negotiate about what sort of money you would want to have your Mustang used, and also get a legally binding contract drawn up between yourself and the production company to cover anything going wrong, monies etc, etc.

Hope all goes well,

Greg.:)

Congrats! That's really cool. Just be careful, those movie guys tend to look at cars as props and treat them accordingly.

It's not theirs, so why should they care, right?

If the director tells the hero to jump in the hood, that's what he'll do. So make sure your agreement is watertight.

Other than that? I'm jealous. :)

Ditto!

Oh man, that's a great opportunity! CONGRATS! The 71-73s can use every bit of exposure they can get, and your car being as clean as it is, it'll be great for a movie. Hopefully they take good care of it and get that baby on the big screen. I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we're genuinely excited for you! Hope everything goes through smoothly so we get to see your car on film. Again... congratulations on the offer!

Thank you everyone!...I agree and appreciate the advice with keeping a close eye on prop master's and the production company in general. Fortunately I am familiar with this sort of thing and will definitely be mindful of such. I will also be sure to have a "cancellation policy" so to speak in place if in fact they decide not to use it last minute, and also an overtime fee :D They currently need it for five days but I will be darn sure to add a good price if in fact they need it longer....And I am glad I have yet to add on any of the decaling because I know that when it comes to filming they usually want the vehicle clean of that stuff unless the car manufacturer is going to pay them mucho money to show it. So that definitely helped me there. Hopefully it all pans out and I can add some pics in the coming month.

Just remember what happened to the 73 Sportsroof in Marked for Death!

they are not doing a re-run of "gone in 60 seconds" are they??
Funny thing - despite big time actors and a bigger budget, present-day Hollywood couldn't improve even slightly on the original, much less do even half as good.

Had Toby's crew spent just a bit more time shooting and editing the first half for consistency (plus re-dubbing the Parnelli Jones workshop), his movie could have approached near-perfection for car-chase films of its era.

To think how much simpler it would have been if we had heard his voice early on in the film, as we're visually discovering who the character is: "My name is Madrian Pace. I'm an insurance investigator. I'm also a car thief." Sure, Atlee's voice-over is interesting and fun, but too much - Toby could have let the entire Challenger rebirth scene run on music alone.

There's something that every scriptwriter should remember in the back of their mind: "Show, don't tell."

Cool!!!

just get every thing in writing, last year they were looking for fifteen 70's cars to do some filming downtown Providence, they were not looking for clean show cars, but all of the cars showed up were your typical show cars.

they had to make the cars look used and abused, I pulled out at that point.

the used some black removable spray paints and other things to make the cars show some wear, and paid everyone $500 for the 2 days and $300 for pro detailing after the shooting.

lets just say $300 covered the cleaning, not the scratches on a few of the cars, and was not covered, and it was in the fine print that they will only cover cleaning and no body work.

so read carefully and ask many questions..

Congrats!

What happens if they beat up your car pretty good? Then what? Whose insurance pays?

I hope you get some big bucks out of it.

No it's not a new Gone in 60 Seconds, lol...although I think that'd be cool...The car will be fully covered with insurance by the production house. I am working out those kind of details as we speak. I think I'll set the value at $60k so if something were to happen, I will be able to fully recover my lost both physically and emotionally.

If they need a bad guy car, I'll volunteer my 72 Coupe and gladly ensure it to $20K.
