Can someone tell me what the 2 metal tabs are for that are on the roof rail weatherstrip?

I suspect maybe the rear one is to hold the top of the quarter glass against the weatherstrip?

The front one to press the window glass against the weatherstrip?

What would happen if I cut them off?

My early stangs didn't have these.  As you can see from the pictures, mine are rusty/shot.

It looks like they were plastic coated, as the remnants flaked off.

Anybody deal with a similar situation?  I was thinking POR15, then coat with plastidip.

Any other suggestions.

Thanks

I guess I have to buy a set.......................

As usual, this forum always has the answers due to the fantastic members...

Thanks for the info, I had no idea they were reproduced. I never ran into them.

Looks like they attach under the weather striping and my weatherstrips are both in good shape, no rips.

Thanks again...

They are riveted in, you could replace them on the car by just moving back a small area of the w-strip

But you might want to try and kill the rust first, then coat them. See how long they hold up

Use a small artists brush to paint / apply the coatings
