My 9 inch pinion seal was leaking. I marked the pinion and the nut and removed the seal

How do I retighten it?  I think it has a crush sleeve.  It is a factory 73 rear end..

The odds are 99.9% you have a crush sleeve unless someone replaced it earlier with a spacer.  Don't know if you took a preload reading before you took it off. You need to get it back to the exact spot it was at.  See the link below. Scroll down to the section where Don C posted a section of the manual on how it should be done.

Do you have a beam or dial type inch pound torque wrench?

I have a snap on 1/2 inch with a dial.

You need something that can measure torque down in the dirt to measure bearing preload.  Like 0-30 inch pound scale, 0-75 inch pound range tops.
