Some of you may remember "My Bad Day" back in December when my wife was in an accident...

Well, this again involves the wife, but no injuries thankfully!

The "New Toy in the Stable" is toast - literally...

Pics from 7/16 - My birthday - one heck of a candle for my cake!

Cause was some sort of electrical fault under the dash. It lost power while she was driving, then died completely when she pulled off the road. It started smoking from under the dash and out the console, followed by flames and what you see in the pics.

It's a bummer, I really liked this car and it was so nice to drive, especially in the winter we just had. Going with the wife to look at Subarus, still not decided on a Forester or an Outback....

I am so very happy to hear that your First Lady was OK as it looks like it was a MAJOR blaze.

I would say that your "birthday present" was not the loss of the vehicle but the fact that no one was apparently injured.

Hang in there, Buddy!

Man, I'm glad no one was hurt! I've seen a few cars burn...the do go up fast!

Glad everyone is OK!

Hi,

Man that sucks. I think you had your share of bad luck now! I really hope it gets better for you in the future.

I'm glad to hear nobody was hurt.

It's weird though, There are lots of Audis on our roads and I have never heard of one simply going up in flames.

I send you and your family my best wishes!

Thanks for all your kind thoughts guys, the wife sure has had her share of misfortune the last 7 months. By comparison to the other accident, this was almost comical. The calls to me were " hook up the trailer and come get me, the Audi just died" to "there is smoke coming out from under the dash" then " I'm calling 911, the car is on fire" and finally "the car is on fire, the road is on fire, the grass on the side of the road is on fire, so the cop and I are moving WAY back". This was all in a span of maybe 5 minutes. She said the flames were 20+ feet high.....

This car was a 2001 Audi A6 Quattro, probably one of the nicest driving cars I have ever owned. These cars have literally miles of wiring, the harness under the was was at least 1 1/2" in diameter.....

We already have the claim done with the inc. co. , have to just mail them the title to get our check. We're getting full book on the car, as it was in excellent condition with only 110k miles. Not a bad return on my $1000 investment. Wish my 401k returned like that, but I could do without the smoke, fire, flames and drama for a while...

The wife has already picked up her new ride, we got a new 2011 Subaru Outback 2.5i w/6spd manual. I've always like Subarus and they are the closest thing to an Audi Quattro system without the gynormous pricetag and service costs. We picked a base model, which is loaded anyway. The only thing we'll miss is the heated leather seats....

I have to take some pics and will post them later.
