We are Ray and Marion. We live in the SoCal high desert.

I am posting here because I am hoping there is someone with enough understanding of the issue, to describe what I will encounter when I try to put an E4OD in my 73 Mach 1.

Welcome from So Cal, the Inland Empire. Is this your first time swapping a modern trans in an older car? I did the swap with my 73, with an AOD. It was no sweat, because that trans was almost the same size as the FMX that was originally there.

You’ll have to get a controller for it, glove box is a good place, as well as the space just below the HVAC box in the kick panel.

My 73 Mach one is getting a 460/532/E4OD so we can take the camp trailer and a Mustang to Mustang events.

I put an E4OD in my 84 van back when it still had a gas engine. It has been running a first gen Baumman controller ever since.

Note the parts in my 65 Mustang. I did that one in 2018.

My issue with the E4OD in the 73, is space. When I put the E4OD in the van it was enough bigger than the C6 that it hit the floor - just a little. I jacked the trans up hard, and it made it's own clearance. In the 55 and 63 I rebuilt the floors. I really don't want to tear up the floor in the 73.

Hello from the Palm Springs area! We put a 4r70w in our '67 F100 with only minor issues. I like that one because it's the best of the AOD line and doesn't have the cable. The one issue you should be aware of is to make sure the tranny you get, or the person/company you get it from, understands you will be running a cable driven speedo. The tranny must be internally prepped for that. If not you will have to use a GPS derived adapter to run your mechanical speedo. It's easy to do, just a bit more expensive that way. I have an AODE behind a 427W in a 65 Mustang.

I understand it is possible to bolt an AODE to a 532, but, I think it would be marginal.

I am currently building a 63 F100 with a 532/E4OD. I had to rebuild the floor.

Regarding the AODE in my 65 Mustang, I did get bit on the speedometer cable. There was a gear on the output shaft, but no hole in the case. But I hit on someone selling an output housing with an oil line to the output bushing. And it had a cable hole.

That does not get you a locking converter.

Rear: 275-60-15, BFG TA or Mickey Thompson. Front: 245-60-14, BFG TA. BFG TA are now made by Cooker, and are the only 14-60 series tires in existence. I put enough spring in the rear of my two Mustangs to center the rear wheels in the fender well.

The wheels are vintage slot mags. Rim widths are 9in . Bolt holes are straight drill, no chamfer - designed for "mag" nuts, so the bolt area is one inch thick aluminum. I use three inch studs and bolt-thru, chamfered nuts. The chamfer on the nut creates a work hardened, chamfer in the bolt hole. I have these wheels on my three active cars and the two in work.

My wheels came from salvage yards and swap meets. The wheels are again being made, but with counter bored and chamfered holes so they can be mounted with standard nuts.
