My first experience with computers was a Sperry Univac using core

memory. I have been reluctant to upgrade, but just bought a tablet.

A friend once said a computer is a solution waiting for a problem, an

answer looking for a question.

It used to be that a computer was a tool that supported my job. Now it seems that a lot of my time at work is used by changing passwords to protect the computer. The computer's purpose was to serve me...not I serve the computer.

Core memory. I've seen that and on a Sperry too. Was a Data Systems Technician in the Navy. UYK-20 and 7.

Just bought two I pad mini's today. Gonna use them as communication devices for Mary Ann. If she goes down for the night early I'm gonna start setting them up. Never been an Apple guy. But for the little one I'll learn.

I worked on the UYK-18, 7, 20, 43 and 44 while in the service. Started off as a DS and wound up as an FTG when I went into the submarine service. Now I work with Tablets with all the OEM vendors. Just can't seem to get away from those computers!!!!

4 years, 1 month, 29 days and 10 hours here Bojo. LOL Wish I could find that rat ba$tard that made me get three haircuts on my last day. I still get steamed up a little when getting a haircut. Was on the Independence and about a year on the Virginia. Wouldn't do anything different if I had to do it again.

Cole,

I got out at the 20 yr point plus terminal leave. Sort of miss it some days but not as much as I thought. I probably wouldn't change what I did if I had to do it over again.

Every operating room where I work have no less than a dozen

computer consoles and related hardware all hard wired/wireless somewhere.

Access is restricted to user ID/password or fingerprint and voice recognition.

We do a fair amount of robotic surgery (da Vinci) and that is fun.

It is all about computers.

Now I just need to figure out what to do with the tablet.

Shucks, fellas, that ain't nothing. I remember true digital devices called fingers and toes. When Al Gore invented the abacus, we were all ecstatic! I was a beta tester for the abacus in those earlier days, and using the analog device was a godsend compared to the old digital method.

I trust nobody had shares in Wang and Amstrad! And didn't Compaq buy out what was left of DEC?

Those were the days when motherboards were actually made in America....

Now I believe it's only some high end server boards made in the US.

So I just activated the GPS system and it pointed an arrow

on Google Maps within 10 feet of my front door. I have a

GPS device and it is accurate to maybe 30 feet. But I

understand the tablet also uses GLONASS along with GPS.

So both sides already know I own a tablet and where it is.
