My Car
73 Mustang Mach 1
I have a 73 mach with a 351w. Whole car is pretty much done then realized that the oil pan plug is stripped. Im at double oversize and dont see my luck changing with another step up.

My question: How hard would it be to swap out oil pans without pulling the motor. There is a cross member below the oil pan with maybe 3-4 inches of clearance. This is a front sump pan. Possible to remove? Think ill have clearance??

Any half descent manual explains pan removal. Remove 1 side motor mount bolt. Raise engine. Turn crank for maximum oil pan clearance. Then cuss like hell snaking the rascal out around exhaust. :p But yeah, it is doable and not that hard. Really!

We recently replaced the oil pan on my 351C. The Ford shop manual says to unbolt the cross member and remove the pan. Unfortunately, on my car, the cross member is welded on. So we unbolted the engine and raised the front a few inches. We found a broken engine mount in the process so we replaced both mounts. That was a bonus find.

ok cool looks like i can kill 2 birds with one stone. My crossmember is permanent as well. And i also have a bad LH motor mount from when the motor was mounted and leaning back when i didnt have the trans in. The reason im asking is becasue this is a fresh rebuild and didnt want to undo every little thing i already did

Mike i changed mine like that a few years ago. Pretty simple. Nothing an afternoon in the garage and 12 pack cant take care of. Definately good time to change motor mounts too.
