So my 2 year contract with AT$T is up for renewel.

Have been with them for 15+ years wireless, no reason

to change providers now. They offer the usual free and cheap

phones. I may decide to buy the iPhone; horror of horrors!

They offer other models but have never owned an iPhone or

anything Apple for that matter. They offer the iPhone 4 for $0.99

and the iPhone 5 for $199.99, so is the 5 that much better?

What do I do with my current CP, nothing. But if I had a cool

phone I may find a reason to carry it around.

Wow for .99$ you can't beat that.

I used to have an iphone 3 and went to the new BBz10.....I think the BB is a good phone, but again if I had the option for .99$ I think I would have done the iphone 4.

I have always owned Android Phones (I like the big screen of my Samsung Galaxy S3)

but My sister has always owned IPhones, and she loves them, I would get the 4 or 4s .

but if you like a big screen (4.8") then the Samsung Galaxy S3 is only $49

its got 16 gig, with expandable memory, and replicable battery, and a great camera.

I would stick with the IPhone 4 or even an Android. Iphone 5 isn't that much of an upgrade IMO to spend $200 for. Wife has an Iphone and I have an Android. I like the Android much better.

If you're just looking for a middle tier smart phone then the Iphone 4 would be ok. Your biggest differences between the two are that the 5 will give you faster data speeds, a faster processor (helps if your multitasking between programs, and also a better camera. Along with the Siri voice commands and such. I've been working in the cellphone industry for the past six years and though not for ATT, still one of the big wireless providers. The biggest thing I see is that people that make that change from basic phones into what we call the smartphone tier, quickly come to realize how much they use the smartphone for things that they didn't even think of originally because it does so much. The two biggest things are this, make sure you ask yourself lifestyle questions like; what I'm going to use the phone for and if any of those answers involve taking alot of pictures or wanting to use a good amount of web, then I say the 5. And it may drop a little in price because the 5s will be out very soon.

And the second thing is, find out what they are going to charge you for data, cause that's where they are gonna make up the money they lost on selling the phone to you for a low price.....just things to think about. People don't always need the latest devices, but you don't want to put yourself waaay behind on the technology side of things either.

I have had the 4s for a long time and I love it. Had two androids before that and I prefer the I phone except for one thing...if you link to your computer, it loads every pic onto your phone and you cant delete them. Unless someone here knows how?

I have an iPad, that was a gift. Personally I don't care for the way Apple operates and attempts to control the market. When, and if, I get a new phone (I have a 5+ year old Blackberry) or tablet they won't be Apple.

I've had all of them,

Windows phone 8 is reliable and very easy to use, it's app selection is lackluster but growing.

Android is good for those who like big screens and use their phone a lot. Android has a steep learning curve and I recommend being tech savvy if you going to keep it for a long time as my experience after about 6-8 months stuff starts crashing for no reason. Very irritating.

You mileage may vary.

iPhone is nice if you have smaller hands and prefer to operate it with one hand and don't want to carry a big bulky phone around. It's slim and fits easily into your pocket. I am on iPhone 5 and I like it so far for day to day use.

Everything just works and the iPhone 5 and up charges really really fast. It's easy to use and I recommend for anyone that's just starting to get a smartphone. What I don't like about it is the sync with only one pc to transfer music, pics, videos.

Hope that helps you out. If you go iPhone route get a 4s or better as it will still receive OS updates and still run smooth thanks to better processor.

I really like my iPhone5. It's 4G and downloads, email, surfing the web is lightning fast. Much more user friendly than my Droid was. Just sayin'.......

My 20 year old daughter just switched from an iPhone to a Samsung galaxy S4... that phone is amazing.

And if a 20 year old says android is better... I believe it. She is on her phone doing something like 3 times a minute

Well, found out from reading The Fine Print, this offer only

applies when I add an additional line. I already have two lines

one of which is rarely used. The other line is being used by an X

roommate for 15 years now. I keep the line because back when I

first got a CP, San Francisco (415) was the only CP service within

500 hundred miles. The rule of thumb is to buy your phone service

from whoever owns the most telephone poles. These days they call

it infrastructure. Back then that would be Pacific Bell, Cingular and now

AT&T. Oddly enough, the prices have remained remarkably stable.

I bought my first smartphone two years ago and got an HTC Thunderbolt. I love it now that I understand many of its capabilities, especially the ability to voice to text message. Got an iPhone 4 in August that I have to use for work - still trying to get that sucker figured out. Why can't they put the keyboard keys on the same side (or vice versa)? I got pretty good at left-handed one-handed texting, and now it's on the opposite side. Guess I'll be ambidextrous pretty soon.

Do you do a lot of calling? if not go "pay as you go" there are several cheap ones ; virgin mobile $80 a year or T-mobile (less minutes) but $40 a yr , I just got an iphone 3 used for $10 (it was an AT&T ) I unlocked it so it can use any carrier and may go Tmobile "pay as you go" as I do not do much calling and you can't beat $10 every 3 months ($40yr)

The iphone 3 as well as others I have purchased used (including an iphone 4 for under $10) have web browsers and wifi so I can browse the web for free or even use skype to make calls. I carry them around substituting for a laptop as they are almost as useful and it's all free so If you are on a buget its a great alternative to the bloated greedy carriers
