Thanks for the information, just what I needed. My '72 9" bare housing measures 55.75" from bearing flange to bearing flange. The info I have gathered says the 70-71 Torino and 71-73 Mustang housings are the same width. Both are reported to be 61.25" axle to axle (wheel mounting surface). Subtract 5" to get the bearing flange width of the housing. My measured number (55.75") does not match the reported width (56.25").
Spring perch center to center on Mustang is 43" and is 41" on 71 Ranchero (I measured both). I don't know, for certain, if the Ranchero and the Torino have the same spring perch width, but the research I've done indicates they are same. The perch on a Mustang has a hole for a pin that is somewhere around 1/2" in diameter, where the torino has a large hole that's maybe 1-1/2" and engages a rubber and metal clamshell that wraps around the leaf springs. The design is intended to reduce the transmission of road noise. Both perches are the same width (2.5")
Thanks, I had a feeling the spring perches would need to move. That’s easier than narrowing the rear end.70 Torino is the same width as the 71-73 Mustang, they take the same axle shafts. The spring pads will have to be moved.
