I just wanted to mention that I've had 2 of these original HB's outer sleeve slip which moves the timing marks to a different location. It can really mess you up. I went with a new solid (I think)HB from summit. For checking the HB for slippage it looks like maybe the crank slot is in the straight up position for the timing mark to be on the pointer. Can anybody confirm this.

You are right. With the keyway straight up the pointer should be on zero. I've also had the outer ring slip and in one case the outer ring disintegrate at high RPM. Chuck

I stopped by the shop yesterday after work and their whole crew happened to be there. I explained the situation and they all, at the same time, said, "It's the wrong harmonic balancer on there!" My builder walked over to the shelf and said, "Here's your original balancer. Does your new one look like this?" At first glance it looked the same. Closer inspection showed that the keyway was in a different position, and the "balancing holes" drilled into it were different than the new one I installed. I brought the old one home and pulled the new one off, and the numbers are different. So now I need a DOAE 6316A1 harmonic balancer. Anyone have one laying around they'd like to part with? I'll pay $25 for shipping, or a fair price if necessary.

The machine shop 'lost' mine, and later discovered that it was pretty much done when it tried to come apart on 'em.

Picked one up at a local parts store for about $100.
