Quick question. Will the replacement trunk corners for the Coupe/Convertible work on a Fastback? Thanks.
Need some details to answer. Remember a photo is worth a 1000 words!

AOCUSNRET,

No, it is due to the angle of the fastback trunk area. Also, when looking under the Ford Master catalog, the trunk corner is part of the 27840 rear quarter panel assembly. The only part number I found was 28060. According to the FMC, it is part of the rear quarter panel. If you are looking for a replacement part, then I would reach outto Mustang Supply of Ohio, Don, or contact James Van Buren Jr. of Blue Ridge Classic Mustang. http://usedmustangparts.net/

I am a bit surprised they made the one for the coupe and convertibles. The industry usually does the fastback first! Also, pictures would be nice also like kcmash stated!

Find a coupe/'vert at a salvage yard and have them pull the whole rear quarter panel area through the trunk opening (be very specific about where you want them to cut, though).

That's how I replaced mine (although, I used a piece from another sportsroof) - should work fine for you as well.

Here's the bad news:

Test-fitting the replacement piece harvested from the '72 sportsroof:

All back together with a repop taillight panel:

Humm, I thought they were different I know width of vert is different and of course trunk length? I know they are crazy expensive saw several great ones on my last parts search in Oxford N.C. out North East part of state. He will cut and ship. I got some parts sent to Africa from there. Look on cl for contact info. I have somewhere but will have to find.

Whoops - I'm sorry, AOCUSNRET - I totally read your post wrong. I thought you were asking about replacing the pieces on a coupe/'vert, rather than a sportsroof. I hate when the boss walks by and starts making actual work demands of me while I'm in the middle of important stuff. :whistling:

Yeah - you'll need to pretty much do exactly what I did: find a donor car (sportsroof) and have them cut out the pieces you'll need.

That's what I was afraid of. Friend of mine was a metal smith in the Navy and has to tools to shape and form. I'll give him a shot if all else fails. Car is in pretty rough shape and not very well taken care of. At least now, she has a chance of being saved.

You're going to need to pull the taillight panel to replace that floor pan, anyway (which is what was also going on in my pics in addition to the passenger side trunk corner, taillight panel, upper shock mount pockets, and rear crossmember).

It's not so bad. At least you have a skilled metal worker to help... I had to learn it all on the fly, hope what little welding skill I had at the time would get me through, and just learn to not be afraid of it.

Before you tackle the floor pan, though - make sure to thoroughly clean out the inner frame rails to get rid of the rust you find, as well as seal it all up with an epoxy-based primer (like Rust Bullet) to make sure it doesn't come back. Since you're there, and they're exposed, it's the perfect time to do it because once you weld the floor pan back in, you'll never see the insides of those exposed frame rails ever again.

Yeah, po loved pop rivets and galvanized sheet metal covered by tons of bondo.
OK... I admit, back in '79 that is how I fixed them and then repainted with my rattle cans... Now I know why I sent my vert into the restoration shop to do the body/paint... :whistling:
