My Car
1971 Mach I
Sad day, had to replace the original water pump on my '71 Mach this past week... Image that, it only lasted 44 years, what kind of cheap suppliers does Ford use anyway....what next a buck for a gallon of gas!! :p

Any way, I would like to have the original one rebuilt to keep the same casting. Has anyone ever had theirs rebuilt? Recommend anyone?

Thanks for your help.

Mac

Mac, I'm as die hard a Ford fan as they come. But I'm sure disappointed with Ford that with all their resources and money they couldn't put a better water pump on a car. Someone at Ford would sure hear from me!! (Lol) And hate to be the bearer of more bad news, but I heard gas COULD be over a dollar a gallon this summer!! :p

Mac, I would check these sites, and maybe give them a call to see how much of your $$ they would like to have for a rebuild and return of your original pump. http://www.kelloggautomotive.com/wprebuilding.html

I haven't used any of them, as I just used new Ford replacement parts. But now that I understand more about date coded parts, this is a service I'll probably use. Looks as though most of them have been in the business for a long time. Let us know what you decide to do and if they hurt your feelings on the rebuild price. Good Luck!!
