I am going to a local pull-a-part type of salvage and thought about what might be worthy of picking to be used on our 71-3 cars.

As more of a purist, I would probably use more period-correct items off similar year cars - but for all the guys who like to mod and change things up I thought we could post up things that have worked and fit.

So post up maybe what has worked for you and I'll try to build a spreadsheet.

I'm not really interested in the Hollander interchange items that list cars of the same or similar year to ours. That might be another list... :)

So post up whatever works Please mention if you have experience with the part(s) or it is just something you 'heard' might work...

Wheels are a concern of mine - I see many later model cars at the salvage with great tire/wheel combos in good enough shape to allow you to put your car on them while you are working on it. Always wonder which ones would be the best?

Thanks.

Ray

Good idea, Ray! ::thumb::

Here's a few things I grabbed from a couple of parts cars, and the '72 FB from our local salvage yard:

  • mirrors
  • glass (door, quarter windows, backlight)
  • interior bezels (lights, wipers, lighter, rear defroster/'vert top switch)
  • seat frames
  • usable interior trim pieces (dash, deluxe trim panels)
  • A-pillar trim
  • headliner trim
  • quarter window trim
  • package tray trim
  • wiper arms
  • wiper arm assembly
  • A/C compressor backet w/idler pulley
  • 3-groove crank pulley
  • gas tank filler neck
  • export braces
  • grille support brackets
  • quarter window roll-up regulators
  • parking lights
  • taillights
  • fender/quarter end caps
  • hood locks & brackets
  • Ram Air parts
  • headlight buckets
  • NACA duct inserts
  • trunk lid
  • hood
  • fenders

I know there are a lot more "unobtainium" parts that should make a Pick-n-Pull BOLO list. :D

Oh crap - I just re-read your original thread and noticed you mentioned restomod things from other cars that would work on ours. OK - gotcha.

How about:

  • Crown Vic/Marquis/Explorer rear disc brakes
  • Cougar/Torino/T-Bird sport mirrors (with passenger side remote control)
  • Cougar quarter window roll-up regulators
  • Cougar/T-Bird power window regulators
  • Fox body power window regulators (Fairmonts, Zephyrs, Mustangs, Capris)
  • AOD, AODE, 4R70W/4R70E, 4R75W/4R75E transmissions
  • Explorer/Ranger/Crown Vic/Marquis 8.8 rear axles
  • Fox body [Mustang-Capri] GT high-back bucket seats
  • 5x4.5, 15" or better space-saver spare tires (Crown Vic - Marquis?)

Also, if you happen to find any '97-'03 Pontiac Grand Prix's with dark gray/charcoal interiors, I could use a "halo" headrest from the driver seat - I accidentally broke off the plastic seat belt loop on my wife's '01 Grand Prix GT. She's only 5'2" and hates having to search for the seat belt because it's not "right there" with the seat all the way forward. ;)

Whenever you get a chance, let me know if they have one, how much on price, shipping, and your time (of course). Not a "Holy Cow - gotta have it now"-type thing, either - it's only been 2 years since I broke it, after all. ;) :D

Thanks, Brutha!

I think Ranger and Crown Vic wheels should fit fine.

IIRC, their widest OE selections are still pretty narrow (7" +/-) but should bolt up with no backspace or center bore issues.

I have a power drivers side bucket seat base from a '78ish Cougar to be used in my '71.

I believe all of the Torino/Cougar/Elite bases will work.

This is a no brainer but.... 9" 31 spline "N" cases and lower gears from 60's and 70's pickup trucks. Many have a trac loc also.

How about 400ci clevelands from the larger cars, pickups. They are NASTY w 4V heads and a good build.

You can find small block C-6's in many diff vehicles, Vans, larger cars etc.

Torino and others buckets?

Disc brakes from some of the above mid sized....

Ooops, restomod? Uhh, sorry..

I havnt explored it personally. But heard '01-'03 explorers have bolt on disc for ur 9" rear

I no longer have it, but I used a radiator to core support cover from a late model Lincoln and cut it down to work in my car before I changed the radiator.

Contours were right and it worked out well.

Seats are relatively easy to modify to fit our sliders and many will work. I used 300zx seats in my last Bronco and was even able to keep most of the electrical adjustments intact other than the motor to move the seat forward and back.

Crown Vic rear suspensions would be an interesting conversion to look at as towards the end they were using watts linkages and disc brakes in the police packages. (If you get a chance to drive and flog a old Crown Vic police car, jump on it they are a hoot!)

I ran a set of Ranger rims on my Mustang when it was my daily driver. Also a set off a jeep Cherokee I believe. Both with no fitment issues. But looks kinda funny with truck tires LOL!

Ray - for the record, you can omit the 1972-1979 Lincoln Continental, and the '72-76 Mark IV and '77-79 V from that list, as they changed to 5x5" pattern 15" rims in '73.

Lots of stuff here: http://www.wheelsupport.com/bolt-pattern-list-5-x-114-3/

Kurt - thanks for the link!

But I did not see the cars you mentioned on the list I posted.

I noticed "Lincoln" hanging out there just above the word "Continental," along with the orphaned "1977-79" date. Even though they're disconnected, it's easy for a Lincoln collector to gloss over it and think "Mark V."

Thought I'd clarify - especially since the Mark III and pre-'73 Continentals do have the 5x4.5" pattern.

Yep. I like the link you sent. THANKS

It covers them ALL. I'm going to print it out for next time I hit the salvage. -Hopefully soon!
