Was going to order plug wires but do not see any available for 351 only 250 six cylinder. 1973 has Motorcraft wires and electrical so a one year thing again. Does anyone know where correct wires can be purchased. NPD does not have them.

My old original ones I am sure are dead they were the graphite with string type wires back then.

Not sure how correct they are, they have straight smooth boots (no ridges like earlier wire boots)...On eBay...

David, sorry to hear that someone else has had their hands in your pockets  in exchange for typical repo quality parts!  I've almost ordered from Marti a couple of times but never could convince myself to push "The" button.

The part number for the wire sets changed several times over the years ( Way too many to list here). Applications ran through 1976 for the 351M and 400 which Ford used to retrofit  the 351C. With the introduction of the Duraspark II  system in 1977 which utilized an adapter and cap with male  contacts, the wire set for the 76 and prior 351 C, M and 400  were no longer upgraded.

The first set listed on E-Bay  (D1OZ-12259-B  Motorcraft  WR-3819)  is for a 351W

The second set (D6PZ-12259-SR  Motorcraft WR-3856BR) is one of the 351M/400 wire sets Ford used as a replacement set for the 351C's. You'll notice that it has the long plug boots which are necessary on  the C, M and 400 engines. The seller does state that the coil wire is missing. Typical of a wire set that was probably was on the dealers parts shelf and sent back to Ford on a semi annual inventory return. Shop probably just needed a coil wire which were not normally stocked and one was robbed from a wire set and the replacement was never ordered.

You could probably source one from one of your 351C parts cars or if you need a  new Ford wire, contact me and I can provide  you with a good part # and source.

I noticed the seller does have a "Make an Offer" option. Might see if he would be willing to make a concession for the missing wire!   :)

Steve,

Thanks for all the info. I am going to the closed part house this morning and see if she might have them. If not I will just put normal parts house set on for now.

The hoses I ordered from NPD but had Marti stickers on them. I guess he got Ford permission to repo them but not marked like mine are I think would be for 72.

Off to the plating plant to get the phosphate stuff done if they will do it.

Any advice on the carb? I will also be looking for a rebuild kit today. Took it apart yesterday not too dirty so I let it soak in denatured alcohol last night.

The tag on it is D2ZF AA  B 1M  18

It is of course the 4300. I do have the Ford manual did not see any dark mysteries but I am not a carb guy either.

Cheers,

David, evidently  Marti has the license from Ford to market the Autolite/Motorcraft brand on the wires, hoses, belts etc. Other vendors more than likely  just purchase from him rather than go through the expense and time of licensing a product with limited sales. Still surprised with the lack of originality for a product claimed as Concourse level.

I know you are the original owner and know the history on your car, so to your knowledge has the carburetor on your car ever been changed? In 1973. because of major emissions related changes and many other engineering revisions, the calibration level on the carburetors caused all the 4bl 4300D's to have D3ZF prefix numbers. Your D2ZF-AA tag number indicates a 72 level carburetor and the B   1M18 indicates B=second revision, 1=1971 M=December 18-18th day of the month.

Either way the Ford kit is D3OZ-9A589-A (Motorcraft CT-862-D)

When you go to the parts store you mentioned they should be able to cross the Ford/Motorcraft numbers. You can use the D2ZF-AA OR D3ZF-BC .

Let me know if you have any questions or ideals on the number on your carb.   :)

David, just to add some additional info, I checked a little further and the D2ZF-AA is listed for a 72 Q 351 M/T. (Carb still works on a "Row Your Own" vehicle, no matter the year)!    )

The original Motorcraft 4300-D kits included the 71-72 sandwich style carb to manifold gasket with heat shield. The later CT-862-"D" included the carb to EGR spacer gasket. Not sure what the aftermarket kits include but would be a good ideal to see if your parts source might have any looking for a new home if not included in their kit.

The carb to spacer gasket is D3ZZ-9447-B      Motorcraft CG-364

The spacer to manifold gskt  is D3ZZ-9447-A     Motorcraft  CG-359

Now it's time to get your card out and go exercise it doing what we all like to do, buying "Stuff" for our Money Pits!

I probably change the carb but do not remember doing it, lol. Was always trying to make it run better.

I did order the carb kit from Mike's Carburetor parts. He has lots of video and tips on working on the Ford carbs on his site. https://www.carburetor-parts.com/Autolite-4300-Technical_ep_292.html

He even tells you to solder up one of the ports for gas to come in the carb. lol.

Will have to look around the barn and old garage and see if I can find the other carb. Too many years of stuff.
