well i am shipping back my 521 back to tacoma washington and i have it on a custom made pallet, made by me with custom hold down bracket made by me. its going there without the heads and intake so the top of motor to ground height is different. now i have a 2 ton cherry picker and i can put the cherry picker at the longest extension and see how far up the motor will go up. but if it doesnt go high enough, then i'm going to be wasting my time and money with a company that doesn't have a lift gate.

now i'm trying to get a rough estimate how tall the loading area a semi truck is! i called the company and they said its roughly 48 inches but it was a sectary and she didn't seem very confident of that height and she didn't even ask anybody.

if it won't go high enough, then i'm going to need to bug a friend of mine to let me bring my motor to his business and use his forklift.

being able to use a non lift gate company will save 130 dollars. 150 for no lift gate and 280 with.

any help would be apprciated.

i don't think i should have a problem loading up the motor then as long as i can put the legs of the cherry picker under the trailer and nothing is there to interfere.

Asked a good friend who has retired from doing long-hauls. He said some trailers have air-ride.

They can drop the pressure and the deck (floor) of trailer will come down about 6 inches.

48-50" normal ride height and 42-44" dropped.

Stay safe.

It depends a bit on the height of your pallet. I was able to lift a 350 chevy over the side of my boat on the trailer, which was 57 inches off the ground, but I was dealing with less weight, and no pallet. I was at the extreme lifting height of my Cherry Picker

Once you get it up, it won't be a problem tilting one way or the other. Just be carefull! If it goes it goes!!!! You can't hurt it. Only you!

When Don shipped my Cleveland long block to California, We used www.freightquote.com with excellent

results. Answer a few questions and you get a list of shippers, like that hotel ad on TV.

To ship a 650 lb. engine on a pallet with door to door liftgate service 2500 miles cost me $310.

Could not be happier with the service.

i'm shipping from sac cali to tacoma washington, then it goes to come back so i'm trying to get the least amount.

Olie you should be healed by now just lift that thing up into the truck:p
i am definitely healed by now but i'm still nowhere near as strong as i use to be. i may look stout'ish like before, but the strength isn't there.

so no deadlifting 500-600lbs anymore, nor benching pressing 430+lbs anymore either.

I would say the trailer having air bags is 50/50. A BB Ford on a pallet that high.
my pallet is made with 4x4 and 2x6. the thickness of the 4x4 is 3.5 plus the thickness of the 2x6 is 1.5 so that gives us 5 inches off of the ground. 460 motors as generally 27 inches tall. so off of the ground we are looking at 32 inches.

if i remember right, when i lowered the motor into the engine bay i believe the motor going up really high so the oil pan will clear the radiator support. i will play around one day with my friend and see how high i can get this motor up in the air with the pallet.

Should be no problem. Just be sure your chain is as short as it go and lift it with eye bolts and short cable from the engine.

i got the whole motor buttoned back to gether to ship and with the cherry picker at the further out position and the chain as long as possible (about 10 inches long and i can make it shorter if needed) i got the bottom of the pallet as tall as 52.5 inches. so if the loading height really is 48-50 inches it should work. i'm hoping the truck driver can semi drive up my driveway and make it a little easier. but i also got a few more inches to spare on the chain if needed.

looking to ship this thing by next week.
