Went to the mail box today and got a great surprise that put a huge smile on my face like a child at Christmas...No it was not playboy, it was even better...someone has subscribed me to Mustang Monthly...PONY PORN! I don't know who did this but I have to say it made me a very happy boy...thanks! ::yourock:: This is the best forum ever when it comes to people...I am a member of some audio sights that don't even come close to this one, makes me wonder if it's a Ford thing or what?

We're the red headed step children!

Of course we stick together! No one else understands us!

Very few can see or understand the genius of our 123 models ....we are the chosen few?

Have you been introduced to the goat yet? I hear it's very enlightening.... hehe

That's cool.

So, you're into audio? for listening to music, or other? Hobby or profession?

I love music, and consider myself an amateur audiophile. I love great sounding music, and that requires good components. Although, I try to get good yet inexpensive components.

I like vintage audio, just something about those big, heavy, all metal systems. To answer your questions, I have slowed way down on playing in a band for health reasons so I run sound for local bands for fun...and a little cash and I won't get into all that gear...but, I have to have my tunes when I'm working and I want it to sound right...if I can't hear the wood "ring" on a snare with a rim tap, then it's not good enough. I don't consider myself an audiophile expert, but I have enough stereo components to start a museum. In my shop (my favorite hang out) I'm running Kenwood KA-7100, KT-6500, KX-1030, ADC SS300SL, Pioneer PL-250, and for cd a toshiba whatever...LOL...all that comes out of Cerwin Vega HED-1230's on top of Kenwood H-71's. Other equipment in the house include Pioneer, kenwood, and even have a concord CR-260...find one of those at your local pawn shop...I have been told (be a certain female) that I should sell a bunch of this but you know how it is with us hoarders.

What are you running most of the time?

I'm also a traditionalist, and prefer 2-channel stereo.

I have a dual monoblock amplifier by B&K, which is probably 10-15 years old. It puts out 240 watts per channel, and is as close to dual monos as you can get. There are actually 2 amplifiers inside the shell, one for each channel, which gives awesome seperation and a very vivid sound stage.

I also have a B&K preamp/tuner combination.

For speakers, I have a pair of Paradigm S4s and a matched Paradigm subwoofer.

Input is just a Sony CD/DVD player. I have an old Duel turntable, but it has a ground issue, an is currently stored in the attic.

I chose all my components based on value. There are many more high-end options, but B&K offers the best sound for the $$, and so does Paradigm. BTW, NAD amplifiers also provide very good "warm" sound, a lot like wthe older tube amplifiers even though they are solid state.

I have about $800 in the Amp & Preamp, and about $3,000 in the speakers. But the sound I have is comparable to systems that would cost 4-5 times as much.

There's nothing like putting on Pink Floyd's "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" closing your eyes, and getting lost in the music. The sound stage is so clear and wide, that you could swear each instrument is coming from a slightly different angle.

The 1978 Kenwood amp that I have has dual power dc integrated circuits that I like with 0.01% THD at 60 watts so I can hear the difference between a wood snare and a metal one. I picked it up on the local craigslist for $100 bones but I did have to clean and lube the pots, checked the caps and they were great but at some point I do want to upgrade them. I am OCD when it comes to replicating music which I guess comes from standing on stage for so long. I want to hear the heads vibrate on the snare when the drummer kicks the bass, I like knowing when he is using wood tip sticks...LOL...I know some people don't get it, but for me it's a must. WIKI describes an audiophile as a person who desires to replicate the sound of live on stage performance that rarely or never happens...who ever wrote that should come to my house. photo (19).JPG

I also am a little passionate about listening to my music accurately...

Growing up none of my friends could understand why I spend lots of money on this stuff.

Lately in my old age, I've gotten rid of the big box speakers as part of a new make over for the house...

I bought a nice pair of Sonance Silhouette 11 signature inwalls for my mains.

The detail is mind blowing... (I've since upgraded everything to Sonance, delivered straight from the US.)

I keep the Sound dynamics 15" down firing sub just to shake the windows when needed...

I still miss my Nakamichi Dragon! ...hehe... yes, I'm an old fart...

That is a sweet amp! Tell me about that equalizer...
Its an ADC SS-300SL 10X2 with +or-15 dbl which as you know most are just 10 or 12. It has it's own filters, pink noise generator, and built in RTA, but what I like is it coincides with the amp very well except it's not a silver face.

My high school roommate ( I went to Culver Military Academy) had a Carver M400. It was about a 4" cube of an a,p.
With an EQ those little black boxes could sound real good

brings back memories, my brother has Cerwin Vega speakers that were about 3 or 4 ft tall. At full volume they said it was equivalent to jet engine at 70 ft.
And I love those red surrounds :D
