'73 351C 4V w C6. Speedometer started bouncing and a part of the old cable where it snaps into the back of the gauge is broken, so I decided to replace. Usual source (NPD) was out so went with CJ Pony. Only one choice on CJPony, so that's the one I picked but now that it's arrived, I'm not so sure. Will the one they sent work?

CJPony website description: Scott Drake Speedometer Cable Mustang 1969-1986 CJ Classics: C9ZZ-17260-B (Okay, great. I have a '73)
Product description from packaging: Daniel Carpenter 1969-1972 Speedometer Cable 4 Speed C9ZZ-17260-B (same part number, at least)

Differences:
- Scott Drake vs Daniel Carpenter (probably negligible difference but don't they know what they're selling?)
- 1969-1986 vs 1969-1972 (Was the '73 that different?)
- "4 speed" (I have an automatic -- is this cable going to work?)

Classic Industries, for comparison, offers only one: Daniel Carpenter 17260GR 1969-1972 Ford Mustang/Mercury Cougar Speedometer cable A/T or 3-sp M/T

SO: Is there a difference between 1972 and 1973 speedo cables? And automatic versus manual transmission?
(Ohio Mustang lists one for AT and 3 speed M/T and 4 speed M/T, but only for up to 1972)
(Virginia Mustang same as Ohio Mustang)
(Kentucky Mustang has different cables for AT & 3 speed M/T and 4 speed M/T but they go to 1973)

This is the one you need.

In '73, Ford consolidated the speedometer cables for the the Mustang to be two part numbers, one for the 3 speed manual trans, and one for everything else. "Everything else" included the 3 speed automatics (C4, FMX, C6) and the toploader 4 speed.

If the cable you were sent has approximately 67" of core length, you should be good to go.
