Mike your car is a M code - 4 speed with comp suspension

I think you will have the desirerable T or V variable ratio box

You might want to pull that box and send it in to a rebuild company

There are several

Lares corp is one of them - that is probably what you are getting from NPD

Not sure what summit has

+ 1 with Don of Ohio Mustang - Here is the thread that I used in another steering box request.

Here is one possible solution to your leak problem.

Advance Auto: This part look like it it quick turn steering box. 1972 Mustang Mach 1 351 Q code was the saved vehicle.

$116.99 Core: $30.00

Advance Auto: This one is the standard box due to the specs of 4 turns to lock.

Check out this re manufacture:

Lares Corporation is one of the largest re-manufacturers of power steering gears, manual steering gears, power steering pumps, and power steering components in the United States.

We stock, or can re-manufacture any steering gear, pump, control valve or cylinder from any year vehicle from the smallest car to the largest truck.

I would either have yours rebuilt or if the steering is still fairly tight rebuild it yourself. You can get a complete seal kit from NAPA for around $35. That way you don't have to worry about if you're getting the same ratio box back.

I sent mine of to Chip at Power Steering. It came back looking great and he was a great guy to work with. He even located a better pump housing for me as mine was a little banged up. If you have a rare steering gear, I would recommend a rebuild of your unit returned back to you.

I strongly recommend a reman steering box from "Red Head Gears". They reman to a far more precise tolerance than the OEM units, and instsll needle bearings where there were none originally.

They will also give you a much tighter steering ratio, on par with a late 70s Vette / Z28.

I had mine done and the whole car becomes much more pleasurable to drive.

And it is no more expensive than a store-bought reman unit. You'llove it.

Mike call Lares direct VS using NPD

You can send it in yourself and they will rebuild your box

Measured my steering wheel ratio and it is a little over 3 turns lock to lock.

NPD said they had the standard Ford steering box for my car.

Don suggested I had the variable ratio which is different, right?

Red Head has both kinds in stock. Can't really remove and send

mine in as the car is a daily driver. Have not yet talked with Lares.

Would just like to say a big THANK YOU to Mr Don, in Ohio, he has sourced ordered and then on sent the power steering box rebuild kit to me, for a very reasonable price, I was quote $400+ to have mine rebuilt here in OZ, Mr Don helped out with this kit, http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/P-S-Gear-Box-Major-Seal-Kit/_/R-PSK7147_0371839727

Things like this are non-existent in OZ and most of the USA shops are not interested in selling and shipping down under for just one thing.

So Thanks again to Don for going above and beyond when he didn't have to.
