The rear was finished too with the brakes and now the Mach 1 sits back on his wheels the first time since almost two years. Next steps will be weatherstrip, restoring the door hinges and installing the doors.

Before I installed the brake shoes and all the hardware I cleaned and grinded smooth all the recessed areas so the brake shoes can move freely without any hassle.

The brakes are looking great, you need to wipe the body down and let it shine.

Yeah, you're right! That's the dust of the last months which protects the fresh paint 😂 When I have assembled the last body panels I will wipe it down and let it shine again...

Super work, as always, Tim! Did you put a little grease on the six backing plate contact points?

Thank you very much, bud! Yes, I put some grease on the contact points, the same stuff you put on your brake pad contact points.

Thank you very much for the suggestions, Rio. But unfortunately I have not that much scrap metal laying around anymore other than the Mustang... I will count on the wife, she has magic hands and will do the job hopefully well 😉
Thanks again for the tip though. It will be of worth for someone! I made a jack for transmissions like that - to lift it under a car that isn't on a lift but on jack stands...

Mounted - on my own, chose for the hinges already mounted on the car first, wasn't that hard! It was straight forward like in this video

So I had not to yell for the wife... They fit quite well for the first time mounted after 7 years and without reference point. After a little tweaking with the hinges they will fit nearly perfect, I think... Lines, curves and color are spot on, even with a fender, mounted test-wise for a short time.

So alignment of the doors will be next, then cavity preservation of their inside, weatherstripping, glass and all the mechanics of the doors to put all available weight on them for final alignment.

Time has gone by fast and now it's a big difference between now and then. The biggest news are that the Mustang is finished until early spring and I put a few hundred miles on it since then. Without any problems and much fun. But first I will add some pictures about the further assembly process as usual:

Next was filling the doors with all the cleaned, greased and lubed inserts + window glass, restore the window felts (used 3M velcro plush tape) and to set the windows. Besides I did cavity sealing and filled the whole car or better said every fold, gap and other cavities with a special mixture of grease and oil especially made for this purpose. May this car never rust again...!1686825690783.jpg1686825690704.jpg1686825690670.jpg1686825690632.jpg1686825690603.jpg1686825690572.jpg1686825690542.jpg1686825690511.jpg1686825690478.jpg1686825690442.jpg1686825691255.jpg1686825691210.jpg1686825691176.jpg1686825691144.jpg1686825691111.jpg1686825691081.jpg1686825691054.jpg1686825692227.jpg1686825692146.jpg1686825691922.jpg
