Its difficult to describe accurately: the stock bulbs tended to reach thier fullest level of brightness just barely perceptibly slower than when newer. The signals would not just blink brighter in an instant: they would actually blink "up" perceptibly slower.

I'm sure this was a combination of aged wiring, connectors and other points of resistance, older bulbs losing some of thier output, degraded grounds, browned reflector areas inside the housings, etc...

Of course all that could be "renewed" and refurbished.

But, like I said earlier...I 've got the "bug" for LEDs.

Choose natural white for a white light, or warm for an incandescent look. "Cool" will have a bluish tinge.

I have "natural" in mine:

Are you sure it wans't because... you left it on going down the freeway :p

Lots of miles, for sure! That car has had issues ( of course) over the years...but it has never once left me stuck on the side of the road. It's broken down a few times due to random stuff, but I have been able to get it going quicky every time.

Little problems almost always precede big problems, and if you take care of little problems right away you won't have a lot of big problems.

These cars are very basic technology-wise. No problem should be too tough to figure out quickly.

I'm going to do my dash lights now that I've seen what you all have done.

Kit, Which version of their lights did you buy?

Here is an excerpt from Hi-Po Parts, which is where Kit got his lights (I think):

HiPo Economy Series - designed for the budget conscious buyer who wants an improvement in gauge lights (2-3x brighter) but is not concerned with retaining stock color or loss of dimmer function.

HiPo Extreme Series - offers a substantial improvement over stock gauge lighting (up to 5x brighter) while retaining partial dimmer function. HiPo Extreme Series kits are available in our exclusive Factory Color and custom colors as well.

HiPo Elite Series - Designed for the discriminating customer who wants the absolute best lighting kit available. The HiPo Elite Series kits use the brightest LED (SMD) technology available, providing lighting results (up to 8x brighter) consistent with modern vehicle dash lighting. These kits preserve full dimmer function. HiPo Elite Series kits are available in our exclusive Factory Color and custom colors as well

Prices for a complete dash kit, including teh 3-gage cluster is:

Economy $27.95

Extreme $52.50

Elite $74.95

I used the "Elite" ($75). I removed all the faded, cloudy and useless blue "diffuser" cups from my dash cluster years ago, so I used the green 5 SMD LED 194-type bulbs in mine.

"5 SMD" means each bulb has five "surface mount diodes", one on top that fires forward, and four around the sides that fires around the circumference. The SMDs are much brighter than a regular LED.

Contact Bill at "HiPo Parts"...he will take his time with you to figure out exactly what you need and will custom-fill a "kit" just for your application.
