I need to replace my turn signal cam. Are there any specific procedures unique to a tilt-wheel?

Anyone here ever done this?

Kit,

I did mine a while back with this one from cjpony:

I have a 73 Coupe with tilt wheel. It was very strait forward. I did a search but couldn't find a video specifically for replacing the cam but there are a few on replacing the actual switch. Trust me, if I did it successfully, anyone can do it. Good luck!

So there is the whole switch available, or just the cam? I thought those two terms were synonomous with each other.

I would prefer to replace the entire thing, not just a portion that needs to be spliced into the existing component.

Let me start by saying I'm no expert but in my car the cam attaches on top of the switch. Replacing the switch is a much more involved job than just replacing the cam. Here is the switch for a 71 with tilt:

I have never replaced the turn signal switch, but there are several videos on YouTube. There is one on operationmustang.com and also one on averagejoeresto.com. Hope this helps.

Kit,

you have two options:

replace the cam separately or change the whole switch assembly including the cam. Concerning the cam separately there is no difference between tilt or w/o tilt. Concerning the whole assembly you have to buy a tilt unit because auf a flexible wiring harness.

I have first changed only the cam because of a flasher problem, it didn't set back. But with the new cam it was not really better. I realized soon that the whole switch had to be replaced because of other things like broken horn contacts and so on.

Now it all functions perfectly even with the original Mach 1 steering wheel and it's horns. It didn't cost the world...

You only have to unscrew that unit after removing the steering wheel by 3 screws and separate the special plug under the dash near the fuse panel. Then you have to adapt the new wires in the new plug as they were on the old plug. Then fiddle the big harness cable through the steering column - that's all.
