Um.... what does this part that im missing do?

Hello! Well, pulled off my quarter panels to get to my rear windows in my 73 coupe. Noticed both sides are missing the little bracket looking thing that is held on with two screws near the felt. I've included a pic I found online for reference. What does this bracket do? Can I make one? Do I need it? I am ready to put my interior back together but am waiting on an answer here for this. I can probably make something if I knew the purpose and function of this little bracket, I'm pretty handy that way. Does it push against the quarter window? Is there a pad on it if it does?

Thanks for that info. It looks like it is kinda bent in alittle towards the window. Does is keep this from rattling as well? Or is it's only purpose to support the panel?

I think it has felt on it to guide the window on cars that roll up and down.

My windows work, but am hesitant to put my interior back in until I can for sure figure out this piece. I contacted motorcity for a replacement, dunno if he has any yet. looked in the shop manual and couldn't find the part. So anyone who has pics of it or has removed it that has any info would be a great help!

RIBS, is correct. The bracket supports the rear quarter cover which hooks over the edge. I am going to be cheeky and was wondering if you could answer my question?
I have my rear quarter panels removed at the moment, and wondered if you recognise this bracket. I had fitted new weather seals to the quarter panel and roof line and had to adjust the windows to get a good seal. During the adjustment my rear electric window jammed up and the only way I could rescue it was to take it all apart in situ. This bracket fell out from something, I think possibly from one of the window clamping bolts. I have had a look on various quarter window diagrams but I cannot see this bracket anywhere. If you or someone else has access to the electric rear quarter window mechanism, could they take a photo of it please for me so I can fit it back on mine. I had a look at my other window and found the same bracket lying below the window mechanism on the inner floor seal, so the previous owner must have had some issues with the window, and did not fit it to the assembly. Hey Heff.... there are probably more experienced guys than me here that can answer your question.... as my car has the acoustic roll down windows.....

Hi Ripper. You're right, a photo would help, then everyone will known what I am on about. Here's the item. Its flat edge is coated in rubber, so that's why I think it was attached to one of the bolts that goes through the window glass. If anyone has a photo of this in situ, that would be great.

This piece of info I am writing now may help others in the future when carrying out window adjustment. When carrying out the window adjustment on the angle of its up and down travel, the mechanism jammed and I had about 1 inch of travel, so I disassembled the whole unit in situ. I now discover, there was no need for me to take the whole assembly apart, all I had to do was to undo the very bottom bolt that attached the motor frame to the chassis via an L shaped bracket that allows the complete assembly to move in a front to back motion ( away from the passenger seat to the outer quarter wheel arch panel ). This in turn moved the window mechanism away from the motor support frame, and released the jamming component.

This part in some way supports the quarter window, I am not sure how…when I disassembled I only had one, and also lost track of how to reinstall it…
