My Car
1973 Mach I
Unlike most other classic Mustangs, our 123's are devoid of the classic C shaped body moldings or scoops.

My 73 Mach project is a rest mod. Given my love of the 1969 Mach 1 I wanted to put these side scoops on my '73 but it looks like the lines and body shape won't cooperate. I figured I would go with 69 Shelby convertible side scoops that look promising and I have since seen an example that seems to have worked out pretty well.

I then stumbled across this:

http://gtcarlot.com/colors/car/67430328.html

Look at the first and fourth pictures. It seems that someone has done it! I wish the pictures were better so I can see if there is some weird body deformation. It may also make a difference that this is a coupe as opposed to my sportsroof.

Has anyone found or know anything about using this scoop on our 123's?

Don't think it looks as good as on the shelby. I would leave them off.

IMO the only scoops that work with the 7173 body is like the one done on the 71 Pegasus show car

http://mustangsdaily.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/01-1971-ford-mustang-pegasus.jpg

or the lower side scoop on this one. Not the roof line (sail panel) one.

Anything else just looks like a after thought bolt on. But to each his own. It's all about making your car your own!
I've seen and like the Pegasus.

The later one is the 69 Shelby convertible side scoop that I referenced in the first post.

To me this first one looks much better (Pegasus).

The reason the pegasis one works is that hst its bigger. The bigger body of the 123 needs bigger accents to look right. Thats why the first one looks funny (well that snd it doesnt look like its lined up on the body line correctly)

Clint Eastwood said : Opinions are like ar-eholes, everybody has one.

I'm an old school fart,so to me, the air scoops are more acceptable on the green car than the oversized Roman chariot retro wheels and the rear spoiler pointing up at the front catching the wind as an air dam instead of pointing down and doing the job it was s'post to be doing in the first place.Wrong way 'round too, me thinks.

The all black grille and the retro hood locks don't work for me either.

But that's just my A-hole opinion anyway.:D

As they say, to each his own.

I also like the work done on the Pegasus over the other car. One thing that jumped out at me on the Pegasus is the side mirrors are even smaller than our sports mirrors which means they're purely cosmetic.

I also don't care for Pegasus, including the scoops, the silver one from Scottsdale are even worse. The ones on the green car could have been done better, but in my opinion (and knowing what an opinion is like) it's the best of the 3 examples.

The pegasus is an impressive effort at custom work on a 71 sportroof. But, clearly the rear spoiler design wasnt thought out. It seems it was a priority by the designer at the expense of the already chubby rear quarters. There is a hint of Pantera there for sure, but the larger scale, without the lower paint feature that Ford used makes it look fat. And since when is the long hood a problem with the look? The designer wanted to chop 6" off the front? Mistake IMO. Very happy that somebody used a 71 as a platform, but not as impressive as it could have been. Sorry. But everything else is great, especially the color. Ha!

There is a guy in las vegas who put 70 style fender and body scoop on his convertible looks real good

Uh oh, here we go. I dig scoops, and we've hashed this before...

The bad thing about bolt on scoops is the fact that there aren't any out there that lend themselves to our body styles. They really need to be made or altered to not be "cheesy".

Look at the scoops in post #13 then check them out a again in the last pic of post #30. I Photoshopped them in #30 and simply changed their lines to match the body lines of the car and lowered their profiles a bit to look more, "era correct".
