NOS original Ford pop open gas cap. It is a D1ZZ part number but the cap is a D2zxxx Motorcraft. Perfect for a 72 HO R code Mach 1. Please see condition and ID in pictures. Shipping from 80136. Local pick up ok. Starting to dig into the mess. $300 obo

A joke:
Why did the hippy drown?
Because, he was really FAR OUT.

There are 2 holes in the outside of the cap. These were brought to my attention. Any best guess if they are original and for what reason? Do not purchase at this time.

Not that odd. I have a 1985 Mustang built late in the year, and it has many, particularly trim pieces with E6ZB moulded in.

That's odd that the box is a 71 but the cap say 72. Something seems off there to me.

It's the difference between a service part number (on the box) and an engineering or casting number ( on the part). The items sold under the service part number can change, but the part number doesn't need to if form/fit/function don't change. The basic number shown (9A112) is only for the gas cap base, not the complete assembly.

I agree with what you said but I would bet those parts where in the box/bin with the matching part number when your car was built at least I would assume. Its common to have an early production car with different year parts. I just find that the NOS parts are boxed different. Just odd to me is all I'm saying.

vented cap? I looked around it is a mystery. I do not think they belong there. Can someone delete the post?

Seen people attach emblems to the cap, could the holes be for that?

By the way, does anyone know where to get replacement parts for these caps? Without having to buy the whole cap. Then again, my guess is the parts might be more expensive than the whole, new assembly.

edited for spelling

I had a 'wanted' post on here looking for a scuzzy or broken pop-open to repair one I have. No responses. So either there are no scuzzy/broken ones out there (unlikely) or no body reads the ads beyond the first page of results?
