My Car
1971 Mach 1 Hcode in grabber green metallic
Seen this car awhile back and got to wondering the offset.I know they are 17inch and I would would love to run a 17" front 18"rear fr500 combo on my mach 1 to drop the nose down a bit more. Im am reading about everyone having issues running 17s because they hit the upper control arm so does anyone know the width and offset of these so I can be certain I purchase something that will give me no clearance issues

The 17 inch rim will be at the exact height of the upper control arm. Search my threads for "Experience with bigger wheels".

Otherwise you could just lay a rule against the surface of the hub where the wheel mounts to (I don´t know the exact word for it, sorry), jack the suspension up until it caries the wight of the car and measure the distance to the upper control arm. That way you get real life measuring. That distance is the exact backspacing you need for the rim to rub, so you stay one size below that.

Thanks and your thread was the main reason im weary about it but just like in the pic its been done just with a high offset.too bad they dont make a fr500 in a 19".otherwise I might would go 18"f 19"r

Well I don't know about "those" wheels. However, I have 17's on my '73. I have 17x8 with a :.5" BS (245/45-17). For the rear, I running a 17x9 with a 5" BS (275:40-17's). I would have gone with a 295 of 315. It the wider you go from 275, the cost goes up considerably. I didn't think it was necessary for a daily driver. Anyway, I have no clearance issues at all..

I have 17x7.5(measured bead to bead) and they don't rub. 17 x 9.5 in the rear. I 225/40 front and 245/40 in the rear. Wish I went with 45's or 50's and + 20 on width front and aft. Offset on my wheels is 4.5 centimeters front and 10.5 rear.

1973 Mach-1 with 17's

Front- 17x8 with 245/45-17 (4.5" BS)

Rear- 17x9 with 275/40-17 (5" BS)

I have heard 17x9.5 (rear) would take a 5.5" BS
