I have a 72 mach 1 that i bought years back with no tranny and no engine. Finally getting around to piecing it together. Bought a 351w and c6 tranny from a (1980s) f150/bronco. I have some questions about the tranny linkage and I cant figure it out. The first pic (image 5705) is what i have.
The second and third pic are what i came across on other (71-73) mach 1s. Image 5708 has the neutral safety switch and 5707 does not have it. What gives? Also, would anyone happen to have a part number for the kickdown rod that is supposed to run from the carb to the transmission linkage?

Sometimes on our cars they had the neutral safety switch on the transmission. Sometimes they put it in the floor mounted shifter. I would check your shifter to see if there's one present. And if not, use one mounted on the transmission.

As to the part number, I was under the impression that its different for each motor and transmission combination. 71-73 mustangs didn't really come with a 351W motor. So IDK if there's a valid part number. In my 73 with a 351W, I used an aftermarket lokar kickdown cable.

Your 80s Bronco donor was a column shift vehicle, so it has the incorrect shifter setup for a floor shift vehicle. The rod you show in your first pic is the backdrive rod for the column/shifter interlock mechanism. The shifter rod would come in at the top of the transmission, above the NSS.

NPD carries the 69 style C6 shifter shaft which *should* work.

You can get the kickdown rod and lever from the link below. The 351W has a .3" taller deck than the 351C, but the 71-73 351-4V C6 kickdown should work for you.

Thank you for that information! I will be looking first thing in the morning :)

Thank you Hemikiller. I really appreciate the help. In the link you sent for the lever shift shaft, there is only one connecting point(I'm thinking the shifter rod connects to that). But then how do I go about connecting the steering column lock rod and kick down rod to the lever shift shaft? Ive attached a photo for reference of what is still missing.

This is what the linkages looked like on my 73/351C/C6 combo before I yanked that mofo out.

The '69 style doesn't have the lower lever for the column lock rod, which was introduced in 1970. You'd have to go without it, or fabricate the lever. The 70-73 setups are difficult to find, as you essentially need to buy a complete transmission to get one, few would sell just the shift mechanism.
