Great Job PBR. let me know if you can't find the clip that you are missing, I may have one around in my parts stash
Thanks Bill. I actually found and ordered the hardware from CJ, so I think I should be good. Hopefully I can get all the trimming correct, as the holes are all about a 1/4 inch off in placement...both clips and access holes. The whole panel needs to shift about a 1/4 inch / half inch to the left (towards the outer door edge). I've heard these often don't line up sometimes for the clip holes, but wasn't expecting it to be that far off for the access points for the armrest and the window crank. Anyway...more to come.

Saturday Update 2/1

So the interior is coming along nicely...which again, I am happy about, as it finally looks like a car, as opposed to something I pulled off of Sams Hot Car Lot. Also added in some pony floor mats just for the touch. Still waiting on the bolts for the passenger seat track, hence the seat missing. Trim panels are in and the only thing left to do is figure out the rear seat situation and put in a headliner. Outside of that, a radio, ac/heat unit...and we're off.

Lesson of the day: Practice Practice Practice.

So I have been less and less thrilled with the refurb I did on the trunk lid...as it was one of the first things I attempted to salvage. That being said, I have decided to order a new replacement and took the opportunity with this one being crap....to try and place the trunk lettering with pins on there to see how it would look before I order the new one and I strip everything for painting. I'm aware "officlally" the 72's have the classic fender emblem on the right hand side of the lid, but I like the look of the m u s t a n g spelled across. What I did learn however is that by practicing, I realized that when the new lid arrives, I will be going to the adhesive letters as opposed to the pins.

I measured all this out, leveled it all out, taped it...1-1/4 inch down...2 inches apart...and this thing came out all jacked up. Specifically because the pins that are on these Scott Drake letters are angled upward....so when you actually drill and place them in, they slide upwards about an 8th of an inch from where you anticipated and marked it. This led to the letters being all kaddywonky and I was definitely glad this was a test run. Even though I wanted to stick with pins, I think the adhesive letters have a much larger area of play to position and adjust for level placement as opposed to doing pins, whereas if it moves, you're pretty much f'd with holes and crooked letters. Lesson learned.

All in all, progress forward. She heads into the shop next week for the rear window. I probably won't update until thats done. Who knows, you might even see it painted the next time!

Have a good weekend all.

Couple of shots I forgot to post prior to her being shipped off to the window repair. Pre and post dashpad and steering wheel, interior touches. Liking the way it is coming out, and love the touch of the walnut wheel against the black. Horn won't work tho, which seems to be a common issue with these Grants. I have current and voltage and I did test the flow to the horns prior...she's just not picking it up for some reason. Not a huge deal, just another bug to decipher.

Hope you all are having a great weekend.

Hey all...so while she is in the shop for the welding work, I started mapping out the new headliner, ordering bows, etc and noticed something.

Is there a piece of interior molding that should run the length of the front of the roof to cover where the headliner will be anchored? As you know, I refurbished all the plastic interior trim from the original car, repainted, etc., but this piece (if there is one) was not present.

Does anyone know if there is a piece of trim that covers this across the top...and if so for all you part-pushers out there...does anyone have this piece and willing to sell it? Let me know.

UPDATE.....thanks to @Spaceman who tracked down the side trim and the rear quarters, I secured those pieces. However, the front piece that sits at the top of the windshield where it meets the roof seems to be one of those "holy grail" pieces that are not easily found. If anyone knows of one, if anyone stumbles across one, let me know. I may have to work some creative brain cells and fabricate a plastic piece.

Yes, there's a metal header trim that also has the sun visor clip attached to it. I should have one from a hardtop in Ginger.

Latest Update - So the car is back home with no further progress on the rear window as before. The guy that said he was going to tackle it in 6 days has just been letting it sit at his shop for almost two weeks without even touching it and no update, so he and I had some words...and the end result was me pulling it. So now I am looking for an alternative fabricator to tackle the window. Pretty frustrating, as I thought it was actually being worked on, but if you are familiar with Florida service...this kind of thing is not rare. Can't tell you how many contractors never show up, never tackle the work, or never complete the jobs. It's baffling....

Anyway, only new progress is I got the Magnums on the car the other day, which I am pretty happy about. Obviously just that one addition changes the whole look of the car. Loving the classic look.

NOW....here is the "What not to do by Paul Schmidt" moment of the week....

You'll all notice that I put the NACA hood on it. Which initially looks really good. However, I learned an important and very expensive lesson about bitching about shipping costs and what not to do when trying to avoid them. So I ordered the hood from NPD...and to avoid the ghastly shipping price...I drove 45 minutes up to Ocala to pick it up...taking with me a number of supplies to strap the box to the top of my SUV. Cushions, straps, etc. Got there, bought a bunch of stuff including a new trunk lid...did the lockdown on the roof and headed home.

Lesson...a 75" by 52 inch box at 70 miles an hour will not hold up to wind conditions. The box was indeed strapped down securely enough and did not budge. However the tension of the wind caused the straps to rip through the box and proceed to bend and dent two sides of the hood. It also shifted and cause a kink at the very top. So with 417 dollars on the line, I was not going to not put it on for the time being...but of course now being OCD about this car...I see nothing but the shape issues and dents. So...while it will serve the immediate purpose, I will most likely order another one to replace it so I don't fixate on it constantly. Which ironically, will end up costing me as much in total as it would have if I just paid for shipping, or rented a flat bed for the day to go get it. Could have kicked myself in the a$$ for that move. Oh well.

Anyway, a few pics attached. I'm going to tackle new drums and shoes this weekend, which should be interesting considering I tried doing it Sunday and could not budge the original drums off....they are pretty rusted and fused. This might be a project in itself. However considering I'm kind of at a standstill on paint and progress until I figure out the rear window issue, I'll start on some of the suspension, brake items.

More to come. Hope you all are doing well. Cheers guys.
