My Car
1973 Mach 1 Cleveland 'H' code
I have never restored a car, and do not even have the skill...but want to do both. I found this 1973 Mach 1 and the owner swears EVERYTHING is original. He is asking $6000. Do you believe this is a VERY good deal? I am in Michigan and would have to fly to Alabama to even see the car.

Can't discern much from the one photo, except that it looks like the car may be painted a different color than that seen in the door sill.

I'd buy it...

As long as there's not a lot of rust.

not a bad starting point for someone learning to restore.

Being original, (maybe), there may be lots of worn parts, but you can drive it while you fix all the little things...

Good luck.

Did Ford ever paint the hood in that black out scheme? I thought it was solid black in the center.

That is not the original paint. The side stripe doesn't look right, either.

What's the VIN?

it looks like at some point someone worked on it, the lines on the drivers side door are out of alignment, but its a 40 year old car.

For $6K if there is minimum rust on the under carriage, its a good starting point for a fixer upper that you can drive and restore at the same time, a fun car to fix and enjoy :)

Get a picture of the Data Sticker on the door. This looks like another late production car with the regular vinyl inserts instead of the knit vinyl. Also we can decode everything for you and see what options it has as far as Engine, axle and trans. I am guessing H Code 351 2v with a C6 and 3.25 rear end non locking. The more I look it looks like the seats were recovered they look overstuffed and a little crooked. Stripes on the side are correct just look sloppily installed and the Mustang script is correct but crooked I am guessing one of the mounting tabs is broken off, there are three that are held to the fender with barrell clips

Could be that the fender is a replacement and the holes weren't drilled properly. With one tab broken it should still look right. A picture of the passenger side would be interesting to see.

Assuming no incredible rust and it actually running without pushing out incredible smoke - buy it for $6K. I'd also plan on getting it shipped back. I bought my car in Alabama and it's as rust free as just about any car of it's age on the road.

i appreciate everyone's response...he did tell me it was a 351 'H' with C6 and 9" read...and provided the attached. i have also included another pics.

Maybe there is a forum member who lives close by to this car and could check it out for you.
i like that idea...is there anyone who is a member who could check this out for me in the Athens Alabama area? Even for a fee?

My first thought was Don but since he hasn't all ready bought it, it must not be in his neighborhood. Sure enough he's about six hours away. Athens is right on the Tennessee border.
Funny stuff right there! If it were nearby I'd be happy to check it out.

All cars prior to 1974 do not have Aabama titles. All you'd get is the registration and a bill of sale. Other states DMVs know this. If not point them to the AL Dept of Revenue website and it will point it out for them.

My thought is move on. He tells you it is mostly original, it is not. He is either clueless or a liar.

I am sorry but at some point someone thought that fender would be 'okay'. What else was 'okay'?

all he is showing me that he has when i asked for the VIN was that blue document i have in the photos above. it appears to be a Bill Of Sale.
