Beautiful car...wish I could justify owning one. Will you please clarify something. The term SCJ is mentioned in your post a couple of times, but the Marti report shows it to be a CJ. I'm no expert, but I thought a C code was a CJ and a J code was a SCJ. Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable will either confirm or correct me on this.

Here's what the '71 Ford Service Manual lists for 429's. I have to admit, I've never studied this table. They are designating the SCJ's as CV or CY. Did Ford actually use CV or CY in the VIN or just truncate to the letter "C"? Ford had to have had a way to discern between the two. I searched the forum and there are several discussions on this very topic....obviously, Ford wasn't clear on the CJ/SCJ designation.

SCJ was specified (confirmed) the rear end gear 391 or 411 designation. If you ordered either one of these you automatically got the SCJ option over the base CJ (350 gear ratio or less)... off the top of my head.

The engine code in the VIN has nothing to do with whether or not its an SCJ, just wether or not the the car did not (fifth character of 'C') or did (letter 'J') come with ram air.

The rear axle options dictated whether or not it got the different SCJ engine.

Doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense 40 years down the road (why the big block with ram air had a different engine letter in the VIN but the small blocks didn't) but that's the way Ford did it.

Beautiful car BTW, good luck with the sale!
