So I'm trying to get all the rust tackled in my 73, and the worst area I've found has been around the weatherstripping seal in the trunk. I'm wondering if anyone has a junk car that has good metal in these places that they'd be willing to cut and sell to me. I've included some pictures of the problem area. These two show the drivers side, I've got nearly identical damage to the passenger side as well.

It would take some time, patience, and a few choice words but it can be fabricated. I've had to do similar projects before but usually on rare cars like the one I'm doing now (54 Mercedes 300)

Caspian,

I have no doubts that it could be fabricated, and that's kind of my last resort at the moment. I've never done such work (I know I need to learn!) but I would hope to cut my teeth on something easier. So I figured I'd ask here!

I have a '72 FB at the Hobby Shop that's going to be stripped and parted out after I'm done swiping parts from it (which I'm pretty much almost there). I'm not entirely sure what the condition of the trunk surround is, but I'll know more this weekend when I get back to the shop and take a couple pics.

If those sections are in good enough condition, they're all yours. I can't make any promises though, because the car had an FB vinyl top on it - the whole roof/upper quarter panel sections have a lot of bad spots - hopefully, the trunk surround area is still good.

Sounds good! Let me know what you find out!

Bad news... the surrounds on the parts car are toast. You're better off going with Don.

Sorry!
