alternator and wiring

I want to replace my alternator to a 100 amp unit, I understand there is some wiring and/or battery cables that will need to be changed.

Any pointers? Also, what is the stock amperage on a '73 "Q" code Mach 1.

Are you talking about doing a 3G conversion? They sell a mostly bolt-in kit for that. If you have the stock amp meter, it probably won't be happy about it.

Depending upon the options, you could have up to a 70A alternator. The typical Ford rear terminal alternator topped out at 65-ish amps. The side terminal could be had up to 90A in other car lines.

Powermaster has some direct fit options that are 75A in a small case 1G and more in other styles.
