Mustang Mach 1 Fastback 1973
Hello dear friends, finally it starts again! I started the new season today.

The Mustang is taking on more trains and is almost finished. However, I noticed today that the car can ALWAYS be driven in reverse gear, but sometimes all forward gears, i.e. ‘D’, 1 and 2, do not react immediately or not at all. This does not change even when I press the accelerator. The engine revs up but the gears do not seem to engage. However, this is not reproducible when driving in reverse, where the car goes directly backwards as it should. If I then switch back and forth a little, it can happen that, as if by a miracle, the car then moves into ‘D’ and 1 or 2. But then usually with a ‘big jolt’ forward. I checked the linkage and cables and everything is fine there. I had refilled the automatic transmission fluid, but everything looks good there too. Any ideas what the problem might be? Defective signal, defective cable?

*Usually*, this is due to low fluid level. Be sure you're checking it with the engine running and the transmission in park. It's preferable to have it warmed up.

Sounds like the same problem I have been having. It started a few years ago and I changed the fluid and put some TransX fluid in it and that fixed it for about 2 years. Now it’s acting up again. Fluid is full. Mine started as being only forward, but now it won’t go into forward or reverse. Once the transmission warms up it’s fine. Hopefully going to have it rebuilt soon.

Sounds like a plan for this summer 🙏
