Thanks for the comment and advice Gil, I appreciate and always pay attention to your posts and videos. I picked this up used from a member here and I believe it to be an original part but will surely figure it out. I will give my extra dash a try to see if there is any difference and report back here to let everyone know. Some things just popped up tonight on my F150 that will end up taking priority as that is my daily driver so it may be a few days or week or so before I get the opportunity to install that dash. Either way, I will be updating this thread to let everyone know my findings. I refuse to let something as simple as fitment stop me. Thanks for all of your contributions to this site.

What is an AOD shifter?
I swapped my FMX out for an AOD transmission I scored from a buddy who was swapping for a T-5 in his '89 5.0 Mustang GT. The shifter action is opposite of the standard FMX/C4/C6 shifters our car came with, so I used the shifter (cable and all) that came with the AOD. The big advantage is that I have overdrive [and a working transmission] now.

Just to add to this thread, I went through the process of changing out my dash. Got the center armrest/console installed with the dash but for some reason the gas gauge is pegging out at max now. I have checked grounds and other tan that nothing has changed. Thoughts?

Thanks

Tom

When a gauge pegs out, that means that the line going to the sending unit has inadvertently been grounded. Check for pinched wires behind the console and if not there, underneath the car. A quick check is to remove the sending unit connector and see if it still pegs. If it does, then the wire is grounded.

I disconnected the plug at the sending unit and the gauge continued to peg out. I then disconnected the rear harness at the kick panel location and the gauge still pegged out. I will pull the cluster and start checking it and all of the wires at the harness. More to follow and thank you for the advice and insight.

I posted this in my other thread specific to the fuel gauge but figured I would post here as well to close it out. I got it working tonight, when I set the dash back in place, the main harness that goes behind the cluster got pinched. There is supposed to have a plastic routing sheath but that's long gone that the harness goes through and is protected. I loosened everything up and was able to move the harness and tested the gauge and it works properly now. If I ever pull the dash again, I doubt that I will reinstall with everything connected again, if I would have had the cluster out, then I would have seen the issue during the installation. Over the next couple of days, I will remove the tape that wrapped around the harness and check for damage, fix and re-tape. Thanks everyone for the advice and I should be back on the road soon.
