Computer question

So I have this Win10 system and I want to install Win7.

I bought the Win7 disk(s), still sell the software.  How do

I remove Win10 or just install over?

Save your important data/info/pics on a removable or 2nd drive, then flush the whole C drive and start over with a fresh install.

Windows is weird about allowing you to revert to an earlier version, as well as all of the orphaned Win10 leftovers will just confuse Win7.

If you are going to do it then definitely do a clean install as Eric said.

Kind of interested in why you'd want to revert back to Windows 7 though. From my experience Windows 10 is the better OS and also extended support for Windows 7 ends in January of 2020 so that only gives you just over 1 year.

I'd strongly recommend hanging on to Win 10. It's lighter and faster than Win7 and will be supported for a long while still. If you are doing this because you have software requiring Win7 then you could also consider installing VirtualBox (https://www.virtualbox.org/) which allows you to run several virtual computers on 1 physical machine.

Buy another drive and install 7 on that drive so you have a dual boot system. You'd just need to F12 into the boot menu to select the drive you want to boot from. I still have my old system on another drive. I've been on Win10 since about the end of the free upgrade and it's been fine. I like it better than 7. Win7 at work, Win10 at home.

You can do this at boot with code that allows you to select a disk to boot from. You then set the one you use the most as default and reduce te selection time limit to 3 seconds. In that way, if you want to boot up from the default disk you dont need to do anything and it will only take 3 more seconds or whatever time you select. Thats how i have mine to boot from Windows or Linux.

Win 10 is too invasive. Microsoft cancelled the email account because they said

it had not been used for two years. Nonsense, use it all the time. They insisted

Onedrive be turned on or else! Have never used Onedrive. Also complained the

camera was out of focus, that was intentional, but how would they know or care.

And they want to use your computer to store and transfer files when idle.

My computer experience started with CP/M then on to DOS 1.1 etcetera. Also

comfortable with Unix. Unix is an elegant OS and bulletproof if properly locked

down with restricted console keyboard access. On the subject of Unix, anyone

venture to guess what that means?

I have Win10 at work (stripped-down/locked down Air Force version) and I don't hate it, but it's really a lot clunkier to me than Win7.  Granted, it's because of the Air Force configuration... but, I'm still not rushing right out to upgrade my stuff at home just yet.

My wife refused to upgrade to Win7 from XP until just a year or more ago after I did a tech-refresh to speed up her machine (she games quite a bit - WoW, The Sims, etc.).  She had a lot of old XP games that Win7-64 wouldn't run, so she's using a "Home" version of Win7-32 - jumping to Win10 is gonna suck because I just don't want to.

I have a MacBook Pro running OSX-El Capitan, and aside from a few nit-noid things, I actually like it.  But, I'm not dumping Windows for Mac just yet.  I'll need to play with some other UNIX-based OS and make sure the things I absolutely need to work actually work before I'm convinced that's the way I need to go... but, I just don't have time for that these days.  Red Hat Fedora 5 was the last real effort I made at playing with Linux, and just wasn't convinced at that time that I needed to ditch Windows.

 I have a MacBook Pro running OSX-El Capitan, and aside from a few nit-noid things, I actually like it.  But, I'm not dumping Windows for Mac just yet.  

Why would you? You can run both on same machine. Bootcamp makes the partitioning a breeze. You press alt on boot, select the win partition and boot on it. Default boots on what ever OS you set as default when no alt key is pressed.

Its handy to have both (or more OS'es) if you have enough space. I use windows mainly for gaming and cross platform tests purposes for my work.

Yeah, I know.  I've had several dual-boot machines over the years, but honestly kind of just grown tired of all the OS Gymnastics for this, that, and the other.  I also had 12 machines up and running on my home network (for just my wife and I) when I was an IT Tech... but again, have kind of just grown out of that phase.  Now, I have maybe 5 machines connected, but only 2 running at any given time.  The MacBook Pro is my traveling laptop, and only comes out for trips anymore.  Her laptop hasn't even been fired up in over 6 months (maybe more - I sure am glad I spent the money on that just so she could take WoW on the road).

I'll switch to Win10 soon enough... I'm just not in any hurry to blast my machines any time soon - everything's working great so why upset the apple cart, ya know?
