Hello,

I'm raising my 73 convertible back from the near graveyard. She sat for many a year and now is getting a new lease on life. The convertible top is in decent shape and I've lubricated the pivot points and latches and it's going up and down pretty well.

The other day I was giving it a good wash when the lower seal along the bottom of the rear glass just separated from the glass. The lower edge of the glass no longer has anything attached to it. The seal portion is black and attached to the cloth that goes down into the well. I called a local upholstery shop and they told me that the entire glass assembly with the cloth would have to be replaced.

They seemed pretty honest but replacing that right now just isn't in the cards. They suggested maybe I could remove the assembly and put some silicone on the seal and press the glass down and let it seal/dry and then try reassembling it.

Anyone else run into this or have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Monterey

I used DuctTape in the past until I was able to replace my rear glass.
Yup, I've seen others with the same fix. I'm trying to do something a little less conspicuous and wondering if some sort of sealant/adhesive might work. Just not sure how to take it all apart. Seems a shame to toss a perfectly good piece of glass in the trash!

Monterey...

I´ve had the same issue on mine when I got it and I did the duct tape thing too.

What you might wanna do is this: You get the curtains with a plastic window for dirt cheap and you could simply replace the glass window with the plastic one. I did that on mine when I got the new top, as I could not find anyone who could install the original rear glass into the new top that would not cost on of my arms and both of my legs. (Europe, you know... :dodgy:)

So I settled for the el cheapo solution.

But it definitely is a good alternative for a fast repair until you can afford to put the original glass back in.

Here´s a link to one:

No way to permanently repair. Just buy the plastic window as suggested or go for the glass section now and replace the top later.

Try Don at Ohio Mustang or CJ Pony parts. Both are members here and post on occasion.

That!

I posted the Mustangs Unlimited link out of laziness because I still had it bookmarked. But Don and CJ contribute a lot to this site, so I´d buy from them.

I thought about it after I logged off. Sorry!

Thanks guys for the tips. I wasn't sure what it was called but I guess it's the "glass curtain". I have a plastic one in my 65 and was pleasantly surprised to find the glass window in this one.

Okay, I'm a newbie, I'll admit it but how did everyone get that awesome picture in their signature lines with their car, graphics, and lettering?

Monterey.

Are the curtains hard to replace? Any directions out there you could point me to?

Thanks again,

Scott aka Monterey
