The previous owner of my 73 convertible painted the sides of the standard grille near the headlights ivy green to match the body paint. I have removed the grille to strip it. I can’t stand to look at it any longer. It looks like the original color of the grille was not black but a gray or silver metallic. Does anyone know what the proper color for a 1973 standard grille should be?

How's this?..20230604_153428.jpg

Thanks Tony! Is the inside part of the grille a silver color at the top and bottom (like above and below the turn lights)? Is the actual cross hatch part of the grille black? The part around the headlights kind of looks like a charcoal metallic.

Inside of the grille is Argent (not the band...), probably like the argent wheel paint. Kind of a warm tone silver grey. No black, just shades of grey or silver.20230604_153451.jpg20230604_153423.jpg

I am going to sell this one, if you might have an interest.

More pics. I suspect the dark grey might be the molded color with the silver/argent accents sprayed. The metallic look around the headlights might just be weathered plastic. Id have to take a closer look tomorrow.20230604_153536.jpg20230604_153454.jpg20230604_153619.jpg

Thanks for all those pictures! I’m going to clean mine up and see what’s underneath tomorrow. I think you are correct about the argent color on the inside and the test appears to be a gray color.
