Dash bezel chrom decorative strip

Hi all

I am restoring dash bezels and wanted to ask how should i make the chrom trim around the bezels?

I thought to use those chrom decorative strips.

Have someone an idea how to make that best or wich one?

I used a silver paint pen. It's not as shiny as the original chrome, but it looks OK for a street car.

I agree.. besides it is easy to use... Here in Uruguay is the best you can get as nobody chrome plastics but that is another story... maybe that plastic can be first chromed and then paint it black where it should be... I also believe that this is the actual factory procedure to do that trim parts...

As Damian mentioned, the whole bezel is chromed. Then painted and woodgrain added. The chrome is not easy, I tried to restore the bezel and ended up buying a repro. Let us know what you decided to do and how it worked. Include pictures, we love pictures.

+1 I used the silver paint pen also.It looks great for a driver.I used it for years until I finaly bought new bezels from OHM. The paint pen is easy and quick and most peaple that see it think it is the factory look!

When I pulled my speedo section out on my 73 Convertible I used model paint around the rings. It is Testors Gloss Enamel #2734 Silver Chrome and comes in a small glass bottle. It looks very close to the original, but of course it is not perfect for a concurs restoration. Here in the USA you can buy the paint at hobby, craft, or department stores.

Here is a picture and you can see how much better the rings around the speedo, fuel gauge and warning light section look as compared to the center dash section. The center section is on my to-do list.

Yeah what i did till now was painting everything in black and put a clearcoat on it. That is cool when you can see your face on the bezel... Depending on how your face is looking like

Than i used a burl wood foil and a black real leather for the rest. In the end it really looks perfect and really really great.

Now the only thing i need are those chrom trim and some O-chrom for the gauges. Than its finished and i will send you some great pics.
