Hello,

I'm sure this has been asked before! How can I be certain from the Marti report if my car was ordered with the deluxe or standard door panels? My 72 convertible has the deluxe panels currently but I don't see anything on the Marti report that suggests it was ordered that way. The current panels have been reupholstered at some point and I would like to replace them.

I have looked at a pdf document on this site "71 Mustang Facts" that suggests the Grande version came with the deluxe panels by default but no other model did - you had to select that when ordering the car. I did read something about the "Decor Group" option that suggested the convertible and Boss 351 may have had deluxe panels by default also but I maybe misinterpreting that (page C-18).

Wondering if anyone out there can clear that up for me.

According to the Mustang Recognition Guide..."Convertible Interior Upgraded, The 1972 Mustang convertible interior is upgraded with knitted vinyl seats, molded door panels with woodgrain inserts, and Deluxe left and right hand black instrument panel appliques."

So since this was standard, it would NOT show on the Marti.

Post your Marti and will see what else we can figure out...

Are there any authentic Deluxe door panels on the market? CJ Pony's do some, but they don't seem quite right. Mustang Resto Parts do some too, don't know if they're the same.

I've been looking for a pair of white or black deluxe door panels as original as possible but they're difficult to find.

Mark,

I think the best option for door panels is through mustangmarket.com. I have read a lot on what's available and peoples experiences and these seem to be the best. I bought a pair of white ones and they are very well made.

Thanks very much for the info, I'll give them a go :).

I know for a fact that all 72 and 73 convertibles came from the factory with deluxe panels, because I had a new 1972 and 1973 convertible. I still own the73(3514V-4speed) "Decor Group" option is on my 73,(mach 1 grille and painted (black or argent) on bottom (LIKE A 71-72 MACH1)The BOSS(style) side stripe was a extra cost option, with this decor group,The decor group is on my MARTI REPORT..PICS ON MY PROFILE PAGE.

As has been mentioned - Deluxe interior was 'standard' on 72 and 73 convertibles.

My conv also has decor group which gave it the Mach grill and urethane bumper. Mine was ordered with side stripes (on Marti). So instead of lower stainless molding separating the lower body paint, mine has the 1/4 inch tape stripe.

Here's the link to the Marti:

Had a local guy bring a set over for me to see

They seem OK but have issues too

I still think the mustang market panels are our best option

I have been selling them for 10 years

We put a set of the TMI deluxe panels on our 71 and are quite happy with them. They aren't perfect but they are pretty darn good. There is a picture of them in the "My Mach link" below. We cut a 1/8" plywood panel in the shape of the insert and covered it with the carbon fiber vinyl to match the headliner, sail panels and visors that we also got from TMI

you are correct when you say that when you ordered the side stripes you did not get the molding you got the tape stripe. A lot of Mach 1's I've seen have had the body side stripe added when the car was repainted. now they have the stripe and the chrome molding. A friend of ours has the side stripes and the chrome molding on his 71 Mach that was added after it was repainted.:run_horse:
