Easy question. How to lube the cable?

So what's the easiest way to do this? Mine squeeks something fierce.

I have it disconnected from the transmission and am about to pull the dash off. What's the easiest way to lube the cable?

I think, as your cable will be disconnected, if you can take apart the cable from the sheath, you clean it if dirty then add some grease along the cable, cable back into the sheath, then reconnect it. I guess.

My preference is a graphite cable lube. Pull the cable out of the housing and clean it. Apply the lube to the bottom half of the cable only and slide it back into the housing. The reason for just applying it to the first half is so that excess lubricant isn't forced into the speedometer head.

Anytime I want to lube a cable (lawn mower, 10 speed bike cables, emergency brake cables) I always remove it and submerge it in a bucket/barrel of oil or kerosene let it set a while and after removing hang it up so it drains excess out of it. Pull cable back and forth to remove "junk/goop" or in the case of a speedometer "twist" it and work it some. Hook up to a drill for better rotation and blow out with air if possible. When using air always use Safety Glasses!
