They hardly ever get it right. But there is a couple Hard Tops for verts out there.
The guy that designed the original retractable hard tops 57, 58, 59, did I think 16, 1965 Mustangs with retractable hard tops. What killed them they were all 6 cylinders I think. So he never made any more.
There were also two manufacturers that made removable hard tops for the 1965 Mustang vert. The Towne Top and Parish Plastics. It is shown in the book Mustang Does It.
I have three of the Town Tops, two black with stainless strip and one white. I have some NOS emblems, and advertising and the sales records. Ford did not make them but Ford sold them. One I have was sold new at TASCA Ford in R.I..
They make a vert more enjoyable lot quieter and better seal on the windows. They were made by Dory Development. Did not sell good either so dropped and pretty rare. Were $289 new.
They might display one in the MOM in the accessory display.
Another guy tried to make and sell a removable hard top that looked like a fastback. Cost too much and he only sold you a shell and you have to find the side scoops, rear window and trim and make if fit. You could not open the trunk with the top on.
The guy holding the white one was the dad to man I purchased white one from in Michigan several years back.
Each top does have a serial # stamped inside on one of the headliner bows so you can track where they were sold. MM did article on them and said only 3 existed, lol, they did not get it right either. When I told them they said that ads were placed in magazines, hemmings, MCA club magazines for 35 years and only three had turned up. I have see seven myself but most were basked cases. You can actually get the original material to recover them and new headliner.
