Hi,

Stupid questions are questions too... :D

Am I correct:

photo 1: feeding fuel line from tank to carburetor?

photo 2: Return fuel line?

Thanks,

Eddy

Yep, original yes but the previous owner took that charcoal canister away and i think he used that line for return fuel line i think...

Now i'm using a Edelbrock intake with Holley carburetor(dual feeding) and also a electric holley fuel pump with bypass fuel pressure regulator(see pic)

Is this working what i want?

Picture 2 is the vapor line from the top of the tank to the charcoal cansiter mounted on the passanger side rear apron below the hood hinge.

Yes, that should work. It is just simply another hard line that runs through the trans tunnel back to the top of the stock tank. With a carburated motor you should not need a return line though. You only need a return in an injected application given the pressure of the system. I do not pretend to be a high performance expert, just mainly stock is my experience, but the return lines appears unneeded in my opinion.

I have another option and do it like the picture below.

Thanks for reply.

That is a vent line for the 71-73 fuel system. You have to understand that the 71-73 fuel tank / cap is not vented as in the 64-70 Mustangs / Fords. If you plug that line up there is no way for the tank to pull in air as the fuel is pumed out. That will lead to fuel starvation / vapor lock type simptoms. " Ask me how I know?" It was a LONG hard lesson fight for me because I wanted to clean up my enegine compartment.

I have not heard of anyone using the vent as a return line for fuel. If I looked at your picture of the old set up correctly, looks like they were also using the line as a vent directly from the carb, no fuel should have been running through there.

Hi,

Can i vent the fuel tank at a shorter way and also save, no line to the front?

I have a blue canister but not the bracket for mounting that canister....

Eddy

That incoming air needs to be filtered. You should have a foam filter on top of the fuel tank (where the line attaches).

Not sure which bracket you are speaking of, looks like you have it mounted. That is how it should look. The only thing missing is the paper hose going back to the aircleaner.

This system does not hurt the performance of the car at all, it is a "Vapor recovery" system, helps to burn off gas vapor.

By the way looks like you have a very good restoration going there.

I would not use an existing vent as a return line. Whatever crud is in that vent will end up being flushed back into the tank. and then end up running through filters into your fuel delivery system. If you need a return line, run a new dedicated return line.

Hi FastE,

That's a pic from the forum or ebay...

I go not use the original aircleaner(no paper hose).

Maybe i have later a idea/solution about it.

Thanks,

Eddy

Hi mustbrad,

Yes this can be ...

I save a lot of photos for the re-building my Mustang Mach 1, I have no other references.

I purchased the Mustang completely disassembled, then it becomes very difficult.

Thank you for sharing this picture with other members.

Thanks,

Eddy
