Have a 71 with 351c 4V and considering adding a fuel pressure gauge in the line between the pump and carb. If the end is cut off the current 5/16 line to allow for some extra room for the gauge, does it need to have a flared end put back on, or should a clamped 5/16 gas line from the cut end to the gauge and then to the carb be able to work? Seems like it should but then what do I really know!

Thanks

With the relatively low pressure, just the straight steel line is probably OK, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I use a double flaring tool to put a bump at the end of the steel lines, for a safety margin, on low pressure lines. If you don't flare it I would double clamp both ends. You can also use a compression fitting with barbed connectors.

I bought a spectre fuel line set up for my holley with the gauge plumbed into it. $50 and seems to be accurate. Any local parts store may stock one or be able to order one.
Omie,

I believe I saw something like that in one of the parts stores I was in. Was the fitting you used 3/8 or 5/16? Did you need to cut the 5/16 fuel line to allow room for the Spectre fitting / gauge? Thats the connection I am trying to do correctly if the flared end of the 5/16 metal line is removed.

Yes, I cut the 5/16 metal line down by the fuel pump and had to clamp a 3/8 hose to it. Most of these aftermarket fuel parts are 3/8". BUT they look nice, I ran a clear filter behind my thermostat neck to verify fuel delivery.
