My Car
73 mustang mach 1 Q 351C4V
Hello, having fuel pressure's issues right now with my Q code 351 ( all stock aside from bolt on's). My "non liquid filled gauge is reading 9psi idle 9.5psi light revs 2k-3k. My Liquid filled gauge from my other car shows 8+psi. The pump in question is a Napa mechanical that was placed on the car in the late 90's ( the car has been sitting for 10 years). Can a fuel pump go bad and deliver too much pressure? If so i am thinking of getting the Carter 6882 (23gph 5.5-6.5 psi) pump, but i am worried it will not carry enough volume? The other option i am looking at is the Holley Mighty mite 4.5-7.5psi electric pump, however i am concerned about installing it correctly "finding a good mounting location". Has anyone had good luck with the carter pump's? My car has a stock 351 with headers msd edelbrock open top proflo air cleaner, and a 650 Holley mechanical 4150. I really don't have the time right now to plumb a regulator unless it would be my best bet?

Thanks

The Carter Muscle car pump should be fine for a stock or near stock application.

5.5-6.5 psi for a pump for the Q code motor is about right. Could be that the NAPA pump is a high volume one and is more than you really need. I agree that the Carter pump that you mention should be just fine. The other choice is to use the regulator but I would go with the new pump first..

Thanks guy's for chiming in, with sound advice! Going to go with the Carter for now, and then "way" later after i get the car road worthy i may lightly upgrade the flow output with a different pump, quick fuel reg & push lock plumbing. I just need simple and running good right now ::thumb::
