Speaking of English terminology, I never understood why the Conservative Party are also called Tories. For years, I thought there were three parties: Conservatives, Liberals, and Tories.

Tories/Tory is abbreviation of Consevatory. Liberals became SDP/ Social Democrat Party. And you are right in the number(sort of) as the third party is Labour party. Those were the main 3 parties until the SNP/ Scottish National Party took a landslide victory up in Scotland during last elections.
