1973 MACH ONE

Hello everyone,

i finally sent my car to a special shop where my mach one is being fully rebuilt and the bodybuilder is asking me how the fuel tank, the rear trunk, the undercarriage and also the interior (floors and around) are painted to conform to the original.

If anyone on this forum has pictures of these parts of the car as they were originally that would be great!

Mine is originally a light blue mach one, may be it can vary upon the color of the car ??

Thank you in advance for your assistance ! :)

As far as I know, all Dearborn built cars were painted with "slop grey" on all the undercarriage, with the exception of the engine bay. Slop grey was a mix of left over paints and they do vary a lot. My 71 basically unrestored on the underside Mach 1, had a shade of blueish/grey under the trunk floor when I installed a new tank. It was pristine and I wish I'd take pictures, but didn't. There will be body color overspray along the outer edges. I'm not sure about factory undercoating, something to research.
As Sheriff41 say, the 429 Megasite is a great source of pretty acurate info.

You and your builder could benefit from a set of assembly manuals for your car. These manuals show how the trunk was painted during assembly and many other things you'll need during your rebuild. Most Mustang vendors sell these.
